Leave a copy at home.

A lost v5 will be a minor worry if your van is stolen while away outside UK.

Hi......do you need to carry the original V5 when travelling in Spain?
Or will a copy suffice?
The original is legally required if pulled in and asked for by Plod, however, I do carry colour copies for any one that thinks they need a copy for some reason.
I do the same with the passports, the driving licences, the MOT certificate, prescriptions, and the wife's letter of authority to carry certain meds.
I don't mind the originals being inspected, but absolutely no one gets to keep hold of them. Instead they are welcome to a copy.
I had a right "ding dong" with a campsite receptionist near Lake Garda, who was determined that she was going to retain both our passports...............whereupon I was even more determined that she wasn't. I even told her to phone the Carabinieri if she was that determined.
She had a huge pile of passports from various countries, sat on a desk unattended, and there was no way that ours were joining the pile. She refused my colour copies, even though I offered the originals for her to check against the copies.
I won in the end. Absolutely "no one" removes nor retains our passports from our possession. Technically, they are the property of HM Goverment. ;)

Cheers,

Jock. ;)
