South of France campsites

We are off touring France next week and will be going initially to Lake Annecy for a few days.
I'm not sure where to go next and the missus is fancying the South coast to maximise the chance for some decent weather
She was looking around Arles but the campsites there get very mixed reviews so could anyone give us any recommendations for any decent sites in the south.

We want to be reasonably near a town centre (short walk or short bike ride) with some nice architecture and history etc.
Campsite wise we aren't bothered about swimming pools, bars etc and all that malarkey just clean facilities, decent views and friendly staff would be nice and we favour small sites rather than large ones

I'd strongly recommend the site in St Remy en Provence. Lovely part of France.

Last time we went to the SoF at this time of the year, a lot of sites had closed up, but we hadn't done any research and were just winging it (as usual)

Saintes Maries de la mer , capital of the Camargue in the south of France. Historic and interesting town with fortified church that you can go up on the roof.. great views..

spend two weeks this summer.. big site, but didn't feel busy, even in high season, 10 min walk into to town.. facilities were good if a little dated.. Not 'big site ' fan.. but we enjoyed it..

We are currently at camping a la plage in port Grimaud. Five min walk into town. Also look at camping holiday marina as some one else said . Can you give @movan a lift down please.

Lots of sites, take a look at the ACSI page, gives you good ideas of what's around. There's a great campsite in Orange, Camping Manon I think it's called. 15 min bike ride to Orange, spectacular place. Also Les Frenes camping down near Antibes/Biot is great. Little woodland site, pool, very quiet. Walk of approx 15 mins to the train station where you can get train that stops at Nice, Monaco, Menton, Ventimiglia, also bus next to station that takes you to wonderful Biot, Cannes, Antibes etc. Quite a lot of sites don't have more than 2 weeks ish before they close, but am sure there are still a few open after that. We left the Luberon day fore yesterday, temps still up in the early to mid 30s.
