Hi all,
My dealer who sold me the Fiat Ducato Bessecarr hummed and ahd about fitting a reversing camera and after waiting 3 months to get it I also gave up.

Now having driven it I’ve realised my confidence is shot when reversing it into a space or through gates etc, it’s 7.65 metres long so it’s a bulky big thing to reverse.

I’m looking to buy a wireless (preferably solar) reversing camera that is easy to fit and seen a few on Amazon but has anyone bought any of these and did you find them to be a game changer ?

Cheers 👍👍

I had an a solar one it worked OK ish for a start but took ages to come on after pressing button then camera packed up, got a replacement free of charge but that packed up after a few months so have fitted a wired system with 2 cameras that is on all the time so like having a rear view mirror

I was looking for something I could order and fit myself when I’m back from the land that time forgot 😂

Fitted a double camera system (wired) and although it took time to route from rear (7.5M) to dashboard it wasn't too hard.

Cheers Jev, the dealer had it so long I don’t want to take somewhere. The ones on Amazon are saying 10 minute installations which is about the limit of my patience mate 👍

I did not want to put holes in back of motorhome so my cameras are mounted on bike rack and wiring runs underneath along chassis up into engine bay and through a bulkhead existing grommet

We bought one from amazon (Auto Vox) comes with extended warranty of 18 months, works well for us so far...fixes to your number plate

If you have a Garmin sat nav of the ‘correct’ model, you could try a Garmin BC40 wireless camera, battery operated - we had one on our 7m ‘van, and it worked really well. (y)

Brilliant, this was along the lines I was looking for. So it does the job well then. Was it relatively easy to install ? Thanks, Gary.

It's just a case of screwing it to your number plate via screws, I believe. That's the install process as all you need to do thereafter is plug monitor into dash and it's already paired

We ended up getting it secured to rear step as our vehicles number plate is on the left.

We had a wired one in our old motorhone which acted as a twin cam....but pic could sometimes be a little cloudy, same with my parent's one.

With the solar We have, you can get it off amazon as a twin cam but all I do is just push button on top of plug and the image comes on for a minute or so, which is fine

Think we paid £125 for single cam so was just a cheaper option....you can get 12v wired ones, but meant having to run cables etc at the rear so hence this purchase

Had it for couple of month but so far so good.

Not charged it since we installed it and lasted a 5hr trip being used intermittently as a rear view cam (wish we'd gone for that option now) on a 5hr journey and battery still 100%

Solar ones are great - long as you never need to reverse at night time or in a covered carpark :D
Haha, some of the ones I’ve been looking at go months without charging I think so I’ll need to try not and reverse in the winter 😂

We've not had that displeasure as yet....Will bear that in mind
However, on our wired one, the view wasn't great in dark at all

Another thought can some not sand in your mirror view at the rear and say stop

I've just fitted one (BC40) to our van to replace a hard wired GARMIN BC30 (the lens of which gets damaged over 2 to 3 winters). The BC40 is battery powered and clips into it's mount - so you can remove it when not using it.

I got the "campervan" fitting which suggests you drill two holes in your van. Nope. Just got a couple of extra strong magnets and it sits happily above the rear doors. Of course, only works if you have a van with steel panels 😊.

I also got the Garmin number plate holder and fitted that to the car - so can move the Sat Nav plus reversing camera as needed (the reversing camera supplied with the car is appalling).

Depends on what you want. Thought about a wireless one, then changed my mind. As ours has a rear toilet & shower, the fitted Interior mirror was of no use. I hard wired two cameras, one as a rear view one, the other one as a reversing camera (comes on when reverse is selected). The display (7inch) fitted with cable ties over the Interior mirror ( where I naturally look for a "behind" view). Fitting was straight forward, the worst bit was running the wires (7.5M camper). The best mod so far.

In that case stop get out and check. Or when you hear the bang you've gone back far enough.
Rivers edge or cliff this theory will not work

I bought a Parkvision 2.4Ghz wireless and wired the power from side lights, so with side lights on I can have it as a rear view 'mirror' and also a reversing camera. Works excellent both day and night.

Amazon......Bought it and fitted it on site in no time. Had it now since August 21. Not failed me at all. Really pleased with it!

Kev ;) (y)

We had had the auto vox for the last 2 years, it charges a battery so works day or night. I use it to see what is behind me when driving as well as giving a 2nd wider view when reversing.

Great, thanks.

We got our dealer to install one but we don't think much of the image. It's kind of grainy and it's not great in the dark or rain. My sister's car and campervan both have much better reversing cameras but they were factory installed.

What do you think of the quality of the image on the Auto-Vox, especially at night or in the rain?

I have two reversing camera's and still managed to back into a balcony !

At least you didn’t back ONTO a balcony!!! ;)

We haven't used it in the rain as yet (when knew eh in the uk) but for the few journeys we have, and in the bright sunshine, the image has been fine.
We had grainy images occasionally with our proper wired one...and no real image in the rain (as prob expected to some degree)
The solar one we've noticed, there's a very slight delay between live and projected image, maybe of a second
