The plan was to add the wiring this week before mounting my solar panels on the roof next Saturday but that plan has now changed. My friend who is assisting cannot do next Saturday but is free tomorrow but the wiring is not ready!

I might be able to sort the wiring tomorrow before they go on but if not can the panels be mounted but not connected? Are they ok basking in the Kentish sunshine for a couple of days unconnected or might that damage them? Worst case scenario could be a week.

TIA

Mark

So long as the cables from the solar panel are covered / insulated then the panel is safe as far as I know.
If the bare wires touch or touch the vehicle body they will release the potential voltage - hence why they just need covering. Most panels I have seen have prefitted MC4 plugs so a little tape over them and they are water tight.

if your panels have plug connectors there safe to leave best tucked under the panel if you have bare wires they need to be taped separately and kept dry remeber when you get to the wiring if its daylight the wires will be live

Many thanks all, I thought they would be ok but pleased to hear that's the case I will tidy up the plugs and wiring so no bare wires.

No problem. Even if the 'live' wires short together, the current flow (amps) will be not much more than the normal working current. Look at the label, it tells you the short circuit current in amps, probably with the symbol Isc. The voltage of a single panel will be less than 40V, which will not give you an shock if you touch the wires.

Don’t forget, when it’s done let the controller see the battery before the solar…😎

I know Kent is dryer than most areas but If you are using sikafkex or similar to fix the panels then I hope you are under cover tomorrow as the forecast is for very heavy rain for most of the Uk.

Could give you a problem.

No problem to leave the panels unconnected, just secure the cables.
