Presumably there is a snorkel to reach the air above the liquid.I think it’s a non return valve that exits at the bottom of the cassette ,and the exit opening sits on top of the fan unit
The micro switch is activated by the movement of the blade and the fan runs all the time the blade is open. The fan is not needed when the blade is closed.today I received a sog kit to fit. Its the type that goes thru the cassette door there is a micro switch that fits to the underside of the bowl
so that when you flush it starts a fun. to me it does'nt seem to run long enough to do any good. would'nt it be better surely if it ran longer
Interesting, thanks. How does it connect to the inside of the cassette to draw the air out?
An heroic adventure in the dead of night to satisfy my curiosity. Thanks.I have just been out into the cold night air for you.
In the base of the loo where the cassette sits is a foam seal to seal against the base of the cassette.
In the middle of this seal is a plastic section forming a ramp, and as the cassette is slid in, this ramp pushes up a pushrod that opens a valve arrangement in the top of the cassette housing that lets air in from the top down past the pushrod and out the bottom of the cassette.
Below the round foam seal is the charcoal filter and below the filter is a fan to draw the air through and out through the floor of the van.
Our fan continues to run for about 5 minutes from when the button is pushed, but it can be stopped if required.

You can get active charcoal pellets for fish tanks I used then to refill the SOG floor vent filters. The charcoal filter from thetford is £24. I am experimenting with activated charcoal filters intended for extracted cat litter trays at less than £1 each. Will let the forum know if they are any good.
Some of these set-ups sound terribly complicated. Mine has a plastic pipe that plugs into the cassette discharge pipe and exits via a fan( blade operated) assisted chimney through the roof.
Mines the same, up to the roofI made use of the Thetford vent to mod my floor vent SOG to a roof vent.

Did you mount the pump directly to the ply board or did you put it on any vibration damping? Did you put any damping under the ply? Now managed to get some soundproofing rubber under the ply, it has made it slightly quieter but not sure it was worth the hours groveling on the floor to do it.www.motorhomefun.co.uk

The roof vent is a SOG option but it is more difficult to set up if it is not done as part of the original manufacture. Full marks to Carthago for making it standard. Roof vent avoids need for charcoal filter and avoids puffing smells out where someone else might object.Mines the same, up to the roof

It’s my first van with a SOG and I’m converted, I’d be hard pushed not to have one now, no need for anything in the cassette and can dump anywhere (officially of course, some dumps as the one at Jim’s can’t dump with chemicals in for example) and no chemical smell in the bathroomThe roof vent is a SOG option but it is more difficult to set up if it is not done as part of the original manufacture.
