Has anyone replaced the fan/motor on their SOG system, if so did you find a way of doing it cheaper than £60?

Those fans do not appear to be available anywhere apart from SOG. The only alternative I can think of is to feed the pipe into a small plastic box and mount a 40mm PC fan in it.

£60 is the cheapest I can find. It might be cheaper abroad (France, Germany, Holland) if you can wait till you are over there.

Yes I have and no I did not find a cheap one. Rip off price isn't it though the failed one was about 8 years old.

Yes, I bought Techno's spare a couple of years ago (y)

It's possible something like this might fit. In fact if the PCD is the same it might be possible to trap the new fan between the SOG fitting (with the old fan removed) and the door.

Isn't it just a computer fan? I suggest take the broken one apart, if you can, and have a look at it, perhaps posting pictures here. :)

I do wonder why the system itself is so expensive, I guess the cost of the fan explains it in part. I have a couple of unused "quiet" computer fans which would seem to be suitable, and it looks to me as if all other components are fairly easily available. I'm very tempted to have a go at a DIY lash-up. Someone must have done it.

This was a chap on another forum who did his own version ages ago ...

The microswitch info is good. I think I'd simply buy a new replacement Thetford screw cap and drilled that, place a 1 inch tank connector through it, with a push-fit 1-inch corrugated hose over that, running to a sealed vent box fitted inside the door, and with a fan venting through the door. Maybe.

No it's a duct fan. Long thin conventional motor in a duct with quite a small fan. All in custom plastic moldings.
I think they have it made for them nothing like it for sale anywhere.

I think the motor is a rip off but the SOG kit is excellent. All quality moldings that fit exactly, like the vent into the cassette and it's cap. Top piece of kit.

It shows that there's more than one way of skinning a cat. My, wouldn't that smell. And make a noise. Is that none-PC?

Why bother, just tip a capful of Aldi's best bio down the empty cassette and forget it, no smell and can go down any drain.

Thanks very much for all the info. It's for a mate of ours who is in Portugal at the moment. He's going to wait till he gets back to the UK to sort it.

Is that bio laundry liquid?
