I seriously need to fit an extractor unit to the toilet, I see Thetford do their own which is available on eBay around £160 or I can go with the Sog kit which is £240 ish
Anyone got a recommendation, which might be best, ease of installation etc, I’m am able to fit myself

Thetford one is very noisy & vents straight under the loo and filters need replacing regularly (they recommend every 4 weeks..

SOG door vents I have found the not as good as the floor or roof vent, the door & floor vents they say to replace the filter every year but in practice best to do it every 3 months. You can refill the floor one for about 3 quid compared to £25 for a replacement.

SOG roof vent is the best option I converted my floor one to a roof vent. No filter needed.

I fitted the Thetford extractor 4 years ago and it's still on the same filter which has no noticeable pong outside the van after all this time.
As for noise, not that noisy, but so what, as it's not used overnight and to date we have not needed a dump during the night.
A big plus is no faffing about connecting and disconnecting a pipe to your cassette as you have to do with a SOG.
Ours works well and well happy with it. (y)

I don't mind which you fit, just make sure you fit, and renew when necessary, the filter oh and don't have outlet at window height of the vans next to you. Waking up dreaming someone is trying to choke you with 💩 is not pleasant.

I have the thetford one and put a big fat resistor in line to slow it down. Doesn't need to go so fast, still works and is much much quieter. Roof vent would be nice but I can't see how I'd do that.

Another vote for the Thetford one, it has been a game changer for us. Quite easy to fit but I took the even easier option and got it fitted for less than £100!
Can’t comment on it being noisy really, it is fairly noticeable in the loo but not outside!

A friend told me last week that the Thetford filters can be refilled. His advice was to open the filter and empty out the contents and then refill with kitty litter.

I have not tried it yet so cannot verify whether it works or not.

Sog all the way ,on my 3rd van had one in each. 2 door fitted ones but current one is through the floor. All worked great and no need for chemicals anymore , but still pop a bio tab in for the emptying smell 😲. Work great and really quiet and easy to fit.

You need to use active charcoal pellets.

When I modded mine to a roof vent I used the underfloor outlet to couple it up so no pipe to faff about with.

I sogged our cassette, for the Thetford cassette and housing everything is more or less in place ,just had to drill through the existing hole in the cassette housing through the van floor( used an angle attachment- easy) added a piece of pipe sealed with sealant and a small computer fan in the designated space over the hole. A rubber ring to contact between the cassette and housing fixed in place. Bought a Reed switch off e Bay and connected it such that the blade control touched it when the flap was opened and all done. Works a treat ,no smells in side the van.we have used far less bio with the sog in place and it all cost less than a tenner.

Thanks for the feedback and suggestions
How do you go from underfloor to roof vent are you fitting a pipe of some sort up the wall of toilet space?

Yes this. I use aquarium activated charcoal pellets, then a bit of duct tape to hold the top back on.
Here is what I did.

I have the Thetford one fitted which was factory fitted. Had it for 7 years now and only changed the filter once. Not smelled anything from it.

The fan packed up a couple of years ago and it turned out to be a problem with the PC board behind the fascia of the control panel. So I just wired it into a small switch and now it is manual. Better for us because the fan is a bit noisy, specially in the middle of the night when nature calls to us oldies. So now we only switch the fan on when we want to use it. And it is noisy enough to remind us to switch it off when we are "finished".
