We have a water softener at home, in a mildly hard water area.
Works well for us and as a side effect slowly dissolves any scale in the system.
So is it worth filling the fresh water tank with softened water before the start of a trip, plus again at the end?
We leave water in over winter with the heating on low so we can be off quite quickly should the mood take us.
Leaving the water heater full of softened water might provide a gentle descale when the MH is on the drive.

I always fill our tank with the softened and filtered water before a trip.

We had our water softener fitted last year. Very hard water in our area. I always fill up at home before going away. We do a lot of European travelling so it's difficult to know if you are filling up with hard or soft water. I always ditch whatever water is left when we get home then fill up with softened water for cleaning in the van and do a flush through of all the tanks, boiler etc.
The other thing I look out for in UK is pure water stations. This is what window cleaners use these days near us so they don't need to squeege windows every time. It's not advisable to drink it but then we don't drink the water in the motorhome system.

We have soft water straight out the tap no messing filtering or gadgets

One good point for Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿
