Hi everyone :)
Is it possible to get a soft close seat and lid for a Thetford loo, please? I hate that our just crashes down on its own and makes a hell of a noise, particularly in the night! Here's the one we have....

Ever since lighting was by Calor gas.

Really?
I've never seen a soft-closer. Rather than let it crash down on it's own why not lower it gently after use?
(I can't believe I've just written that!). ;)

Because sometimes it stays up on its own and sometimes it doesn't. When it doesn't, it crashes down on it's own. There's very little room for it stay up properly all the time. In any event, what's wrong with wanting a soft closer? They're available for normal loos, so why not for MH loos?

My grand old Thetford seat
Has only three conditions.
The design is really rather neat
With just those three positions:
When it's up it's up,
And when it's down it's down.
But when it's left just halfway up
It always crashes down.

It's not 'left' half way up though, there's very little room for it go all the way up ie past the point of where it's going to drop down. The lid will stay up fine on its own but when you also put the seat up it's very precarious. Once the seat starts to fall, it pulls the lid with it. It might sound hilarious to some but it drives me mad.

Yes mate, I couldn’t help thinking it was funny, I’m sure one day someone will think of making them for the motorhome.

Well, after a bit of searching, I find they already do. I just need to measure mine when I get home to see if it'll fit.

As the seat is built into the whole structure, I suspect you would have to dismantle it to change it. You may then be able to add fibre washers to the pivot, but without looking in detail, and as it's fairly thin plastic, I would be concerned to add anything that put the main case under any stress it was not designed for.

An alternative might be to fit something like these placed such as to provide a cushioned landing..

O.K. Just for you here's my solution to a similar challenge.
The staff loo seat in my workshop only just stayed up.
In spite of being an engineering graduate and fully qualified Facilitator my several staff training days showing the males how to hold it up with one knee whilst pointing Percy at the porcelain proved useless so I had to find a solution.
A powerful magnet (from eBay) glued on one part and a steel washer glued on the other.
