Many Funsters have interests beyond motorhomes, and forming groups to share those passions can be a great way to connect. Anyone can create a group and invite others to join. Your group can focus on any non-motorhome topic, such as birds, bikes, beer, bowling, bread-making, boxing, birdwatching, ballroom dancing, beekeeping, bodybuilding, bridge; anything at all.

Feel free to start a topic you’re passionate about. It doesn’t have to start with “B”! You'll find the link to them in the main menu

Social Groups

Seems like a good idea but I am afraid it could become cliquey. Just as an example, and because it is the only one there, the Beni group. Past posts to meet up and share photos etc have been in the general u shaped lounge and appear on Whats New and so easy to see. I have enjoyed reading them. The Beni social group, you have to know it is there and to look on it. Will posts appear in Whats new? You say the creator can invite people to join, that sounds a bit closed, but maybe not what you intend. ?

We've had social groups since 2015, they work very well. We've had groups learning languages and learning first aid, to sharing Diabetes stories.

No, if someone in the Beni group is organising a meal out, the whole forum doesn't need to see that in Whats new. However, If you are a member of a group, you'll get notified when someone posts on it.

will the group title be in the forum lists Jim so others can see what groups are running or is it for members invited by the instigator only.

When I navigated to Social Groups on the Menu and chose the Social Groups list it only shows the Beni group, is this the only one or are there more? and if there are more then how do we find them?

Jim

I could be in social groups for Sailing, Aviation and more, but is it the right place on a motorhome forum or does it dilute the motorhome aspect, which is diluted already?

Geoff

Closed groups could lead to loss of interesting threads .
I enjoy reading threads about hobbies and interests that I don't indulge.
But I do like learning about something that I nothing or little about
If the only things discussed were toilet threads, tyres and how big the solar panels are MHF would not be as appealing, interesting diverse

I'm sure some will feel differently

Jim I've tried to add a social group but it's been denied? If you get time could you advise please. It's not a great hurry. Cheers Mark

There were some, now all gone? Just Benidorm😖

Hi Geoff, don't worry, we have 1500 main forum posts every day, that's more than enough for anyone '\. If the average post has 30 words, that's a novel every other day we're reading! '\

Except in my experience, it makes for even more motorhome posts because social groups keep people here. Say someone starts a Football group, they can chat about their team here and not go off to other forums or Facebook. We've had social groups since 2015. They don't negatively affect the main forums at all.

I'm the same. I joined Fun principally for motorhome stuff. I was already subscribed to a couple of hobby specific sites for my other interests.

Depending how I get to Social Groups I either get Spanish speakers or the list Jim refers to!

Well after creating a group I can't seem to post in it

Yes there will be an index of groups, you'll be able to join any one of them with a click.

Well after creating a group

I see you've given your group a banner. It now needs an Icon that will show up on the index page. Just click and add one, much like you did the banner.
