... something worrying.

This came up a week or 2 ago when we were down south, well souther than we live lol. No countdown and I've not long put adblue in the tank so knew it wasn't empty. Other than the warning van drove faultlessly so I wasn't concerned.

I'd done some googling and found how to check the injector and see if it's all gunged up with crystallisation and in the first video below you can see it's not.

However, while underneath I also spottled there's a load of black sticky gunge under one side of the adblue tank but also farther forward as in the below vid. Anyone know what that may be? Looks like its been there a while and considering I'd had a service done only a few weeks ago thought someone might have mentioned if there was a problem?

Don't know anything about adblue but that looks more like oil coming from somewhere , have you checked the oil level? Or can you see where it's coming from.

Hold on just read again you had a service, so it's probably old oil they drained out of the engine or filter.

I can see where they have changed the oil filter, nice new and clean, but this is farther back so not sure where it's coming from, to be honest. If there was an adblue leak id not expect it to be sticky, if there's a diesel leak i'd have expected it to be sticky as I have heard of black gunge with diesel but wonder if they did the fuel filter too then you could well be right.

I think that I'll get it looked at by O'Reilly's in a few weeks when I can get it in. Just for peace of mind. I've reset the adblue warning for now with the diagnostic tool so will see how that goes too.

The device that measures the add blue in the tank is confused. If it's an ultrasonic thingy, maybe the oil residue splashed on add blue tank has something to do with it.
In my case VW, I add a specific suggested in the dash, amount of add blue; no less or no more. If I scroll in the menu, it will give me a range in miles. Below certain miles I get a message that I can add min 7L max 9L. This amount changes with use, and if overfilled, the ultrasonic level can't read the level. ECU things is empty and tells me to add, but its full. My solution, a long steep hill, loaded, and labour the engine 2.5-3k rpm. This will cause the emissions to rise and the pump and atomiser gets to work. After a while, the level will be detected and the ecu resumes normal operation. I did had the count down no start activated because of this, kicked in at 650 miles and cleared within 50-80 miles.

Clean the oil and monitor for new leak, it looks to me a fresh continuous leak, service ppl are not interested in digging up problems, they are robots, and only do the easy job you went in for, and keep quiet.

Is your turbo at the back? Then may be it. Check intercooler hose air intake for oil.

not thought of that one, seems to be running well though to be fair. But I'll get to it just in case its that. Though need to find where the turbo is first lol.
Good shout too on cleaning it up and monitoring.
