So how do you protect your van

on a serious note, factory immobilser, aftermarket alarm, disklok, heosafe cab locks, proplates.........
think that's it...…….oh and some stuff in .177 and .22...…………..(y)

true, but regardless of what you do, if they want it / in, they'll manage

Yes, and they’ll do a lot more damage in the process the more stuff you put in their way.

tough call then for us all...…………….

to add security...……………..or leave it unsecured and hope they don't do 'too much damage'...………..

all these complicated solutions, if you lock all the doors like fort knox, they will enter through a plastic window in seconds. Better to interrupt the low pressure fuel pump in the tank with a simple concealed switch. The engine will fire up then just stop as out of fuel

Oh and in the last 3 weeks I have had a traveller knock on my door and ask "is the camper for sale mister?" First time the wife said no then the other day I went out and made it clear it was alarmed, immobilised, tracked, secured and definitely not for sale

You can leave yours next to mine, with the keys in the ignition if you like. Let the thieves take the path of least resistance (y)

Seriously though, I take your point, but I'd rather keep my van (when the factory re-opens and we can actually take delivery of it!) as a replacement won't be a case of popping to the dealer to get another.

Wouldn’t leave mine in Portishead, bit rough around there ;)
Much nicer people in Clevedon. :giggle:

ps - like Murvi vans very much. They were on my shortlist, particularly like the interior fitting out and colour schemes. Refreshingly different to beige!

Mine has some cheap security. Distinctive decals. Large number plate on the roof, and 11years old.
Also alarm/immobiliser, tracker and in a secure compound.

All a waste of time. The windows are the week point unless you put bar on them.?

Depends on whether they want to steal your van or just break in and ransack it. The latter is more likely 000s of kms from home.
that's why I rarely leave it unattended.

But the only way in to mine is breaking the cab windows. then they have to climb in/out through them as they can't unlock any of the doors- & as I said earlier I want to catch them i'm not interested in a bit of damage.

I had a dead switch put in one of my cars. Woke in the middle of the night to two wannabe joyriders with the bonnet up trying to figure out why it wouldn't start. So that was effective but I still had the bother of fixing the ignition etc.
In my car now more appropriate to put up a sign saying "please burn properly after use". I love my ole girl but think I'd have to pay someone to take her.

anyone took my van I'd kill 'em.

Easy answer, buy an Elddis. Even the dumbest criminal would have more sense than to nick that. :imoutahere:

Goodness, some of these responses are getting me a bit worried! The only thing we've added is a strikeback alarm and we hadn't used that for years until I recently got a new fob from Nick at Vanbitz.
We've used the camper extensively, it's our only vehicle, and I love the lifestyle that it brings. I would hate it to be stolen or damaged. Old now but still valuable to me. Some of your ideas look good but I could never fit them!

Keep mine simple as its a self built--Disklock on s/wheel (visual deterrent) and door deadlocks /hidden fuel pump switch. Simple/effective and cheap.

The hidden fuel pump switch sounds very useful. How do you fit one ... or where do I get one fitted?

Break into the feed to pump and take through a hidden switch (auto electrician if you cant do it ?)

On ours I have.......

External slide locks on all doors.
Internal locks on drivers and passenger doors.
Captains chair swivelled around and a bike lock through swivel base.
Steering wheel lock.
Wheel clamp.

And soon having Growler fitted owe also CCTV as well.

That’s about it.

I suppose it depends on how much you value your van and how much you are attached to it that determines the level of security you use to protect it. If the latest model MHs have keyless entry similar to my car then you are probably aware how venerable it is. I have become quite attached to my old MH and it would piss me off to lose it so as I wont be on the road for a while I'm looking at ways to increase security. At the moment it has a Sigma alarm system, a steering wheel lock, a heavy duty chain secured to the axel, the habitational door is secured with a steel bar from the inside, the windows have pins through the catches. Its not possible to fit a security post but I'm thinking of fitting wheel clamps. I was wondering if there is a simple way to immobilizing the engine, appreciate any suggestions.
I can't believe you should go to such extreme measures I have just removed the engine battery ,No thief is going to bring a replacement battery with them.
I have an unwanted security post if you want it.

How about having a secret switch in the cab that de-activates a pop up neon sign on the roof saying "This vehicle is stolen please inform the police" Well, I thought it was a good idea.
The might think it is a xmas cake

Ours is parked at back of house, is one of few 'A' Class in the country, is RHD, and will not fit in a shipping container, so is very easily identifiable in this country, and it is a minimum of 100km to a border.

In addition there is an Alsatian and two Policemen living in the flat below. The iron gate bolt squeaks.

I just hope the above takes care of the situation.

Geoff
No motorhomes fit in a shipping container.

Pedal lock, steering lock, alarm, tracker, always dead locked. When away from house the above + 1/2" stainless stell locking pins through front 'B' pillars into door frame rear doors, dead lock bolts internally top & bottom & rear doors & side door have milenco external door locks. Only way in to the van is through the side door. Fortunately the only actual door lock for a key is on the drivers door the passenger door requires unlocking with a remote & the rear doors are separate system using remote only.

But it doesn't pay you for the inconvenience ,hire of another vehicle, loss of use of vehhicle until it is replaced, cost of travelling 000's of kms finding another, etc;etc;
Mine isn't protected to prevent theft but to may gain the extra seconds that I might return ,catch them in the act & can then torture & kill them, for days.(y):dance2:
I cannot believe how over the top all that lot is,So over the top as to be paranoid.
Don't even start to tell me how many flag poles and fairy lights

My old bus is coming up to her 13th birthday which makes her 67 years younger than me so although I thought about removing the engine battery I doubt I'd have the strength to lift it. Thanks for the offer of your security post but like I said Its not possible to fit one.

Not so long ago we pulled into a restaurant located on a main road just outside Donostias San Sebastian.
We took a table overseeing the car park and as we finished our breakfast we saw a very nice van pull in along side us. The owners were an English couple who came in as we were paying for our meal at the bar. They sat down as we left and the only vehicle in the car park was ours. That's how quick you can lose your van.
