Went out for a night on the way home couldn't get 4gear there was a kind of smell coming from the engine the last few times I've been out got a new gear linkege cable put in still no 4gear before I spend a lot of money on a recon gearbox can anyone help me it's a feit ducatto autotrail tracker 2002 minted van but now this

How many miles has it done?. Could be clutch.

It was the mileage I was thinking about. 62,000 doesn't seem too high for a clutch, so maybe not. Have you tried slowly lifting your foot off the clutch pedal while pressing the gear lever into 4th?. If that works, it sounds like worn selector fork problems. I remember years ago some minis had the same problem with 2nd gear for that reason.
