I just switched to Smarty. Reading their notes I see you have to change APN for it to work abroad. They give simple steps to show how. Question is will the phone still work in Uk with this APN or do you have to change immediately before leaving and upon returning?
Like many internet based businesses they don’t make contacting them easy
Thanks

I found when we returned to the UK the APN sorted itself out and also when we returned to France we didn’t have to change it again.

I have been on Smarty for over 12 months. I travel to and from France once a month and have had no issues when connecting to networks either side of the channel

The only thing you have to do, as far as I recall, is to allow data roaming in your settings, then it just works automatically

We are thinking about using a Smarty sim with our newly installed 5G internet box whilst travelling through France and Spain. Has anyone tried this type of Sim in Spain or would a Poppit sim be better?.

Poppit may have financial issues
Smarty is good, but be aware, like most of the other suppliers have a 12gb 'fair use' policy inside the EU
You also need to do the setting thing BEFORE you leave the UK

As already mentioned Smarty only allows 12gb to be used when roaming.
RWG 200gb for £20 all gb can be used roaming and it’s cheaper than Poppit.

As above Smarty has 12gb limit. I’m in France just now using Popit without any issues. You can use your full data allowance and increase to 100gb if you need.

Just to confirm that Smarty cut you off in the EU once you reach your 12 Gb, says he who was cut off recently!

Only if you don't prepay which is refundable on return if not used

I'm in Ireland with a Smarty SIM in a Teltonika modem. I had to manually switch the APN and set it to authenticate but with the username and password left blank.

The other SIM in there is EE and that worked fine with the automatic APN settings. And I think Ireland counts as "home", so I get all my data.

Our phones on Vodafone also didn't need adjustment.

ID mobile had an offer on for 50gb for £4.50 (3 month offer) then £9, when roaming you get full allowance plus they roll over unused data month on month.
Worked faultless in France and Belgium this summer.

Hello 👋 thank you for your response with regards to Poppit but unsure what is meant by contract conditions detailed below
  1. a) UK Data Usage: You must use Data in the UK to meet your Roaming Compliance.
  2. b) Roaming Compliance: Your roaming usage is shown in your subscription, and this must be 100% and in green.
I’m new to Wi-Fi streaming so still trying to consider the best roaming sim to use in France and Spain.

Any assistance, greatly appreciated.

I’ve been in France for 5 weeks with Popit sim, 10gb per month. No issues with use. I did make sure to be a heavy user before I left home though.

Only pain is I went to increase it as I may struggle to stay within and found the increase doesn’t start till the next renewal on 16th Oct by which time I’ll be home and won’t need it. They won’t cancel the increase.

That said Popit was backup as I’ve got a Free Mobile sim in my router giving 210gb pm.
