Just wondering... do you use any smartphone apps to help in your travels? Which ones do you use? Apple? Android?

I was mulling over a few ideas that might make for a useful app and just wondered what the competition might be like.

I have an app in the store for a different set of users but now that I'm a motorhomer, I'm starting to see that there could be opportunities here, too.

My other app started small and grew to include a wide range of features. My initial thoughts for a motorhome app would be:
- drop a pin. Your phone will guide you back to where you parked.
- 2D spirit level. Specifically designed for finding level when parking up.

Of course, there are other ways (other apps) to do these things already but I've found them limited or cludgey (and the best ones stopped working). And having things all in one place can sometimes be very handy.

Well, anyway, interested to know what people already use and if there would be any interest in such an app. And any other feature ideas!?

Yescalevel does the spirit level job
(That said, I've stopped using it and have a simple 3 way spirit level that cost £1 in B&Q)

I've though about an app too, but can't be bothered, but I think there is a market for a combined app that would find campsites, aires/stellplatz, in a given area, but it would need to feed into multiple databases of the users choosing

How about an app for where to 'dump my cassette' (with 'load fresh water' and 'dump grey water' add on's. )
That would work on a very similar basis to the 'mylpg.eu' app

I prefer to have several lightweight apps that are specific for what I need them to do. And not a huge multi-headed monolithic app that's mostly full of features I don't use.

Unless there's some level of integration that means there's a functional benefit, I wouldn't want something like a leveler combined with a parking reminder.

Yes, I tend to prefer the best-in-breed separate apps unless the integration provides value.

Just to get back to absolute basics although a lot of people don't like it Google maps will do all that.

I have lots of apps, specialist for different functions. I think an integrated app sounds good in theory but in practice is highly unlikely to be anywhere near as accurate. Nightmare to keep it all up to date. Sites , Water, LPG, free stops just to mention a few.

Dropping a pin is so easy with so many apps, do it all the time with What3words.

I’d put the idea to bed before you waste a lot of time, effort and maybe money.
