I am trying to reduce all the wires & gadgetry we carry with us in the van & all the trailing leads. We dont have a smart TV at home & to be honest I am not entirely certain exactly what the difference is but thinking of upgrading our TV in van to one. Would this then mean I wont have to use a Firestick to access player etc? Can all apps be downloaded such as Sky Go? I dont do any of the pay per view channels just normal TV & Sky at home. Also can I blue tooth headphones to it so that I dont need the little transmitter thing I have or the long wires to the wired headphones? I have a 4G aerial & UK sim card as wi-fi.
We aren't big TV watchers but often I am put off watching anything just because of the hassle to set it all up.
An expensive extra but may just be worth it. Can I ditch the wires with one of these? Thanks

Yes - it would just mean no need for a firestick but essentially be the same apps are built in. All the usual are avaliable - bbciplayer, itv, channel 4, my5, netflix, Disney+, Apple TV. etc Not sure about Sky Go - I have the choice of various Sky apps but not that one specifically.

I don't know about bluetooth headphones but I use bluetooth speakers with mine so ! would imagine so.

Home (240 volt) Smart TV's aren't particularly expensive. Not sure about 12V ones if that is what you are looking for.

Sky Go's app may not be part of the smart Tv, but then it isn't part of Firestick either. I think there are some ways to get it onto Firestick, but you are bending stuff. Sky Go is normally only available for computer, phone and tablet devices.

You'd need the new TV to have Bluetooth functionality to use bt headphones or a sound bar.
The smart tv will allow adding of most common apps, iPlayer, itvx etc.
Although I still tend to prefer using the firestick but that may be due to my TV's limitations, not sure.

Assuming Bluetooth built into TV, yes headphones can be used.

Was using mine this morning as SWMBO was still snoring away but now using the Bluetooth soundbar instead.

Work with both our 24" and 36" Cello Traveller TVs.

We've got all the usual apps on ours plus Netflix, Paramount+, UKTV Play, etc, etc,......

If you're going to use the new TV outside the UK then, AFAIK you will need a VPN if not using a UK sim. Not sure that this is as simple as a VPN on a firestick.

Will be using a UK sim abroad. Sky Go isn’t important as only used occasionally and it does work in my iPad. We have a sound bar wired from TV so that could stay that way as mounted together. The one we have is the Avtex with Avtex sound bar.

Best make sure its an Android smart TV and no Roku or similar. If you get an Android one it basically a giant tablet but without a keyboard (screen or plug in)

Some apps are not available on Android smart TV but you can sideload them (e.g BBC iplayer and skygo). VPNs are not an issue. You usually find you can mirror your android devices easily

If I do change then may go up the known but very expensive Avtex route. I need whatever we get to be simple!

Gellyneck Such as which please. It’s actually simplification I am looking for. A lot less wires and not having to keep referí g to a manual. It may be cost prohibitive but sometimes it may be worth it. Tkanks

Sniper, Sharp, Cello…….Vision plus, Falcon - there are others too!👍

I think the simplest solution is the one you’ve got! We have a smart tv but still use a firestick as the apps are so much easier to access. The firestick is powered by the tv so you would only save this one wire! We do occasionally use the tv when tuned in when in the uk, but since we discovered the live tv button on the firestick we don’t even use that much. The trouble with apps on smart tvs is that they don’t seem to update as well and as often in my experience.

Can you not put the vpn on the phone (if you use a hotspot) or does it not work that way?

We've got a Cello Traveller 36" but this may be larger than you'd be looking for so maybe one of their smaller models. They work off both 240v / 12v.

We connect it by Bluetooth to a Creative Stage Air soundbar but you'd maybe be able to use your current Avtex. https://uk.creative.com/p/speakers/creative-stage-air-v2
Also various Bluetooth headphones including these https://www.amazon.co.uk/soundcore-...g-Headphones-Black/dp/B0C3HCD34R?tag=mhf04-21

In respect of cabling remember you'll need a power and aerial cable to the TV and, probably, a powered USB feed to power / charge the soundbar.

We've also got a satellite dish and use an external hard disc for movies, etc so there's also an aerial cable and USB cable for these.

The cost of one of the TV's + soundbar (if required) + headphones (if required) would, probably be less than just an Avtex TV.

I was surprised to see a 24” tv in E Leclerc last week that had ideal for camping car on a sticker on it, I think that was a smart tv and was only 129€.
I looked at the screen from different angles and it was very clear never lost clarity.

SkyGo is available on AppleTV and Sony PlayStation ,
I use AppleTV in the van and hotspot it withmy iPhone ( home and abroad on unlimited data)
In my games room I use my PS5 .

There’s a 24” LG Smart TV/Monitor for £139.99 at Argos that runs on 19v. We have a similar unit that’s plugged into a laptop charger off of the moho 12v system. Works perfectly.

Having read a lot of the replies it does seem that sticking with what we have is the best solution. I think if I know I am going to use say the firestick for any length of time then I could”tidy wire it” lot of hassle to sell this TV then choose another and set it up. Not quite the ‘plug and play’ I had hoped it might be. Thank you all for your input and ideas.

I've had my hearing aids connected via Bluetooth to our smart TV at home but the audio delay is just too great.
I can cast to the tv direct from my mobile and also control TV functions (on/off, Channel, volume etc) from my phone via the TV's app.

Forgot to say this one had a 12volt input

 That's bigger than the TV in my lounge. It must suck a lot of juice.
Apologies for the typo it's actually a 32" and has a power consumption in operating mode of 32W.
