low mileage car 900-1100cc for 17 yr old grandson. His little car was written off by over enthusiastic British Gas driver. He is due to take his test in the near future and it trying to find a reliable replacement. Max of £1700 to spend.

Probably insurance cost.

Does not go off engine size.

Its Power to weight ratio as one factor. Plus, amount of safety kit.

An old 1 litre Citroen with few airbags and little in the way of safety kit. Will cost a lot more to insure than a 1400cc newer car with ESP and Side airbags etc.

I can't find the advert but there was a car for sale by Ambilkate but I don't know what year or how much, but it will be well cared for.

SSorry if it not suitable.. I can't find the advert.

Thank you everyone! Insurance co says premium will go up by £400 for the remainder of the period left for a larger engine, and we don’t know how much they will charge for the following year. He hopes to take test in January which may help I suppose.

thank you for the other suggestions, will look them up. Do need to be local to East Kent as both parents work full time and grandson still at school so only got weekends to search.

thank you again for your help. Very grateful.

Have a look at Nissan micro. They are good value. I've had 2. Went from a 2 door to a 4 door. The old square shape ones are even cheaper and they dont rust.

Love the micra. Also had one. Unfortunately through no fault of his own my grandson is trying to find something that is like gold-dust Unless you have about 2,500 to spend. His little car had been his other grandmothers who had given up driving. It had a very low mileage and was immaculate. To add insult to his misery he wasn’t even in the car. Dad had dropped him off at school and was waiting at a roundabout when the van behind decided to pull out, smashing into the back of the car - write off! To his credit the driver did accept liability straight away. Unfortunately the car was worth more to grandson than the financial
payout received. He works hard in school hols and weekend, on top of studying for exams, to pay for insurance etc.

Incidentally this pic.is of my first car anyone guess what it is?

When our daughter passed her test her insurance immediately increased by £3000 a year.
The reason she was given was now she could drive on her own the risk was a lot higher.

Oh no! And they wonder why there are so many uninsured drivers around?

That’s cheating- give that man a mince pie?

It is, of course, a Goggomobile! One of life’s interesting experiences??
