Morning funsters. Just discovered nail in tread of front tyre. Can likely inflate to get to garage but is it safe to repair or should I think about replacing. I don’t have a spare. Existing Delinte tyres nothing special. Fallen all season seem much better price than Gillis cross climate. Repair or replace- any thoughts please? Cheers. Falken!! Doh

As oldiesontour has stated the tyre fitter will be best placed to advise unless its a national chain who i siuspect will just try and sell you a new tyre how much tread is left on it as a repair will be circa 30 quid i suspect and if its nearly bald you might aswel bite the bullet and have a new 1

If thd tyre has a reasonable life left then repair it otherwise buy a new tyre and rim and keep the repaired one as a spare at home.

Especially as ideally you should have the same tyres at each end of the axle. I think it's a legal requirement in France and other countries. I would look for a repair, but be prepared to buy a pair if need be.

I was just thinking the same (y).

If you replace one tyre you really should replace the other tyre on the same axle.

If you do this compare the unpunctured tyre to the spare and keep the better/newer of the two as a spare.

But as pretty much everyone has said, best to get advice from a tyre person as to repair or replace advice.

But if you ask a Kwik Fit fitter, you'll probably need new brakes as well! 😀

Not sure I’d trust the judgement of a spotty tyre monkey over my own! As long as the nail is in the centre of the tread it’s repairable… gives them the ability to vulcanise the repair inside!

I’d be going in saying please repair, not can it be repaired…

How old is the existing tyre? The information will be on tyre side wall, week of production and year 4217 example.

My thoughts and preference....
1. Despite there being four or more tyres, each one is a single point of failure.
2. I wouldn't get a vulvanised repair on a car tyre so I shan't do it with a van tyre.
3. I've aquaplaned at 60mph with 4mm of tread.

So, I replace my tyres when the tread drops to 5mm. If resources permit I'll replace in pairs, with premium - Good Year, Uniroyal, Avon or similar. If budget doesn't stretch I'll replace just the one and do the other one on that axle asap.

I haven't used such services as Klarna, for tyres, but I would if it were necessary to enable me to continue to replace in pairs, with my tyre of choice.

Happily put tyres on a credit card and pay off in full before interest is added.never used Klama or similar seen the advertised but intrest rates look horrendous if not paid. They are not getting great press recently but would.be interested to.know more about it

Klarna isn't regulated so for some people it could be a bit of a tightrope. Pay on time, similar to tv shopping channels (pay in 3) and it's interest free.
I'm not trying to persuade anyone to use it. I would use CC or debit card, in that order of choice. Several consumer advantages with buying on CC.
