So,
today I used my sky stream puck in the van parked outside my house via my phones wifi hotspot.
All worked well, and I deleted my home network in settings and made sure it was using my phones hotspot just in case.

However, not sure if it was still picking up my home router and therefore allowing the device to work on another hotspot but the same location.

Anyone tried this? Especially abroad?

Used Sky Stream all summer in my van through Starlink.
It wouldn't work abroad through the Starlink router, needs a VPN

Which vpn did you use, planning on running mcafee on my phone if needed.

Do you mean on your tv? Never been able to get sky on the tv, only the app on the phone or tablet. If the pick is the same as Q multiroom then it will be using the same network as your main box.

I didn't have vpn. Need to get round to changing the router to one that can use a vpn

Sorry, no.
I use a projector in my van.

I used to use my old sky+hd box in my van and it worked fine with projector and tv.

Very impressive. Nice one. 👏👏👏

I don't know if this is relevant for UK customers.
Unlike Sky, Vodafone allows you to cast their IPTV offering from their phone app to a TV.
With the forthcoming demise of satellite broadcasting, the future seems to be via IPTV. Sky has informed me that if I opt for their IPTV service I can't take 'the box' away in the moho and while I can view my package on the phone, unlike the Vodafone product I can't cast it to the TV.
Is Sky an outlier or is Vodafone unique in its offering, I don't know about other IPTV providers.

I used my Sky Stream box from March to October in my van last year, despite what they say.

My sky stream puck was still working fine on a recent trip to the borders.
I used my phone as a hotspot and used Mcafee to show my I.P. as "Belgium" as a test although I'm not sure whether this is applicable whilst using my phone as the hotspot.
I dont cast though, I connect to projector with HDMI cable.
All working so far on Talkmobile 50 gig sim (this will reduce to 5 gig abroad).
May get a ZTE router and Euro sim card at some point before next Euro trip.
All working fine so far.

I’m not sure how Sky know you are using Stream away from your home address.

As far as I’m aware, the Stream doesn’t have GPS or anything else to detect your location so would have to rely on your IP address. If I check the location of my home broadband IP address, it shows it in various parts of England depending on when I check.

I’m guessing, that as long as your IP address is showing as being in the UK and not belonging to one of the VPN providers, I think Sky Stream should work fine. Famous last words! 🤣

It would be good to hear people’s actual experience of using Sky Stream abroad. If you do use Sky Stream abroad please let us how you connected back to the UK (e.g. Starlink, mobile - which SIM?, WiFi) and if you used a VPN (which one?).

Firestick + vpn + nowtv works a treat, but we have a enhanced firestick for the stuff we legally can't buy legitmately too (ie, if they don't sell it, I'll still watch it).

NowTV has an advantage at present as with the boost, you can watch in multiple locations at same time, allowing a family to "share" a subscription potentially when you have more than one home.

I use Sky Stream through Starlink, but it doesn't work abroad, it knows you are out of the UK.

That’s probably because your IP address is not a UK one. I’d be interested to hear how you get on with using a VPN.
