Sky Stream in van

Sky do say that it is somehow tied to your address. If they do check, and I suppose it's somehow capable of sending stuff back to the servers as it checks you are subscribed, then you get billed extra. But in a recent thread someone said they haven't been caught so far.

I stream a fair bit in my van and if I want Sky stuff, I'll subscribe to Now TV which I'll be able to use via the Firestick.

I want the facility to be able to record and watch at a later date but you don't seem to be able to get that on firestick's
I was going to tell them I wanted it for in a motorhome.

The problem with Now tv is it doesn't support Discovery or National Geographic which are supported on Sky satellite feeds, if you don't watch those I guess it doesn't matter but there is definitely less choice.

I want record facility which you only seem to get from sky.
The SKY stream puck has a playlist which I believe you can add to or delete from.
I'm thinking about having it in my house and just taking it with me whem we are away.

I think they expect you to be using the Sky Go app thingy. That will be an enhanced cost subscription for something called Whole Home" in conjunction with Stream. You leave the stream stuff at your home and use the Sky Go app for when out and about.

But Sky Go is an app for mobile devices (tablet, phone, laptop), and so won't work on smart TV or things like Firestick unless you find a way to "sideload"

Sky Stream doesn't really record. What it does is link within the cloud systems to the stored TV programme from the various catch up services such as iplayer, itvx and so on. It puts all of that in a convenient menu. When you come to watch it you are streaming from the catch up service through Sky's interface that may well hide the catch up service's own branding, especially if you've paid the extra to be able to ffw through adverts. If the TV programme gets pulled from the catch up service, it won't be available on Sky Stream, even if you had pressed record.

So has anyone found a way of hooking up a digital 1or 2Tb recorder to a side loaded Firestick to enable a recording function of sky content?

If it is any help, we took our sky box to Spain where it worked with our large dish and catchup was also available. Theoretically, you should be able to record on the box when ever you are able to receive a signal from your dish on the van. The problems come the further south you go in Europe when a larger dish is needed.

Sky content is encrypted so cannot be easily recorded on non Sky boxes. The Puck creates a playlist which then connects to the Sky servers to play content, it is not recorded in the true sense, its just a list of stuff you want to watch in the future. Equally if you playlist something on BBC or ITV for example it will just take you to the relevant streaming service like iPlayer. Most content is available via streaming so not sure if recording is really necessary.
