Any recommendations please for good sites in the Dordogne valley? We're travelling there in May and looking for a good site for maybe 4 or 5 nights to use as a 'base camp'. We have a motorbike to use for exploring during the day so no need to up stumps every day and move on to the next town. We're both in our 60's and travelling without children so we're not fussed about a site loaded with kids activities, - we're more interested in chilling out in beautiful, quiet surroundings. We would like a pool and bar/restuarant on site. Somewhere within walking distance of a local town or village would be a bonus but not essential. Price is not an issue, within reason. We do have the ACSI membership card. Thanks, Derek & Lorraine.

We have stayed here a couple of times. If it is in the school holidays, there will be kids, as it has a pool. Thr village has a few restaurants and there is a supermarket opposite the camp entrance. We thoroughly enjoyed it.
Safe and happy travels.

Further up the valley Camping Huttopia, Beaulieu sur Dordogne. is a good site, well located for strolling around the village and should be quiet enough in May. It's a good location to tour out from too, with the likes of Martel and Rocamadour easily reachable by motorbike.

Haven't been for a few years, seem to recall a 3m height restriction by reception with an alternative entrance from a road out of town by the river bridge, is that still the case?

You could stay somewhere like Rocamadour. Which is stunning. Some great roads around there for a bike. With some decent ride outs to Sarlat, Beynac Domme etc.

I can also highly recommend Camping Huttopia, Beaulieu sur Dordogne. The site itself very picturesque with some pitches with direct access onto the river. You can walk straight out of your van and be paddling (or even swimming) in the river in a few steps. The town itself has some nice eateries and bars and an assortment of other shops as well. It is very well situated for visiting other areas of the Dordogne. All in all it is one of our favourite French sites.
And yes, it does have two entrances. The main entrance is directly off the main street and does have a three metre height limit. The best way to find the other entrance is to set your satnav for the aire in the town. When you get there (there is only one way of approaching it in a moho), drive straight past it and the site is on the right. No signage telling you it is an entrance though if my memory serves me correctly!

Stayed at beaulieu buttocks last year, great site don't pay extra for a riverside pitch, we were 3pitches downstream of the edit high water levels in late June made for high volume white noise. Great site 5min walk to village centre, water above the edit calm & deep ideal for SUP upstream until islands around been where current increased.
Beynac capeyrol, like dated, don't pay extra for riverside as you can't see river through trees plus their is a footpath fence and then heavily worked bank 10feet plus drop into river. Pitches in centre does no extra charge to pay. Comically they don't advertise the pitches near the road as roadside😁

Camping La Plage right on the river a short walk from La Roque Garjac. There’s a camping car park site at the entrance as well.

I guess so as the ACSI webpage for the site says "Signposted in the centre of Beaulieu. For motorhomes and caravans higher than 3m: at the campsite sign turn left, go straight ahead and follow signs for delivery (livraison) campsite."
When we were there a couple of years ago we just went in the normal entrance. We are only just shy of 3m and I don't recall any anxiety entering and leaving so I think it must be a generous 3m restriction.

I can recommend the above, we've stayed here a few times. It is in the middle of nowhere, not far from Sarlat, so go with food supplies. A very friendly couple run it an it’s very laid back.

Stayed here a couple of times got the bus or walked into Sarlat. Nice quiet site. Big Eleclerc close by.

Agree Huttopia at BsurD is a good site but we were amazed at just how many Brits were on site and in all the villages despite it being low season. This despite it being in the upper Dordogne some distance from Sarlat and Bergerac .

Well, I suppose the region isn't known as Dordogneshire for nothing:giggle:

Second StephenW for Camping La Plage. Beautiful rural location by river. Swimming, canoeing, hot air ballooning, cycling tracks all close by if you feel adventurous. Easy walk to lovely villages if you just want to chill.
Hog roast, bbq etc Sat nights in season, great fun with mix of nationalities. 15 min ride to Sarlat for supermarche and huge market (forget which day, sorry)
We had motorcycle as well and La Roque is a great base for day trips along the Dordogne area. Castelnaud, Beynac and Dome all lovely. Josephine Baker’s Chateau Milandes a great day out. Marquesey Gardens another great day/evening
Happy memories just writing this.

https://campingmaisonneuve.com/en/ We found this one a couple of years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. Swimming pool, bar and its own access into the river. As a bonus it is perfectly placed for Castlenaud.
I second this one. We stayed there last year and the plots were huge. There were several other motorhomers with motorbikes staying there, mostly Germans. It made me wish I had mine there!

Same as HugoBNB stayed at le capeyrou…👍🏼👍🏼… did a balloon flight over the dordogne and a bit of kayaking if that’s your thing.. nice restaurants and bars in the village and a steep castle walk too

We stayed at the CCP Aire at Soulliac. There is a site next door which was just being spruced up for the season.

Right on the banks of the Dordogne. Nice town with a picturesque old quarter. Plenty of shops and surrounded by lovely countryside to explore.

Yes. 🤘

I can highly recommend a visit to the Gouffre de Padirac whilst in that area.
