As of today, 23/8/22 minus a few weeks! ( deposit paid, awaiting collection)
Good Evening

For the first time we are looking to book a break away in our motorhome a little further away from home. Care needs have necessitated staying local up to now. Sadly, with the recent passing of my father we can look to book a week away. We still have my mum to care for but her needs are not quite as intense and will be able to stay with our daughter, which was not possible for Dad.
Your expert knowledge and experience will be invaluable to us as we scour google!

We are looking to split our week, somewhere that will enable us to visit the North Yorkshire Moors Railway and something to see Whitby.
We have no other transportation so it’s walking and public transport only.

Preferably electric hook up. It will be in September.

Thanks!

Phil in Northampton

Broadings Farm Whitby is just a walk down the hill away Phil, it used to be a CMC. CL but they went private.

We’ve stayed a bit over the years there as it’s good walking access to town.

There is a campsite quite near the railway station at Pickering that Oscar has used in the past.
Hi, yes its Colin Dove at Mount Terrace, Undercliffe, Pickering YO18 7BB

It's a C&CC certified site, excellent location behind the train station, doesn't have ehu

There used to be a campsite in fields in goathland, heartbeat country up a lane out of the village, you can catch the steam train to Whitby.

Think this it, although it's quite a while since we were there.

Fees are per person £12 irrespective of of many there is in your van, not bad if just one person but could get expensive for some.
As I say it's quite a while since we went but seem to remember a few different fields and you choose your own spot.
And I think it was a honesty box at the gate but it might well be completely different now.

Totally different area, Greater Manchester, but if you're into vintage railways and a C&MC member have a look at their site at Burrs Country Park as it has it's own station on https://www.eastlancsrailway.org.uk/plan-your-day-out/stations/burrs-country-park/ with discounted tickets for residents.

Steam \ vintage diesel locos hauling the train. Even the Flying Scotsman has been on the run before!

Great pub at the entrance to the site.(y)

Maybe an option for a future trip?

Good Morning

Thanks all that have contributed so far. A few to look at. An aside, just looked at NYMR ticket prices.. £45 per person, seems a bit steep but I imagine it’s an expensive operation to keep going. Seen a lot of kick back on trip advisor especially from senior citizens. Have they priced themselves out of a lot of business I wonder. We are not looking to budget too tightly as we don’t get away much and intend to make the most of it but even so you still want reasonable value for your money!
Good to know about the coastal buses as that seems a likely thing for us.

Don’t forget for that £45 you can use it for a year, whenever you like , as often as you like.

Big Bear Bikes in Pickering allow the use of their car park at £12 a night, includes chemical disposal and fresh water. We've stayed a few times, it's always been quiet and is really convenient.

For Whitby you could try Sandfield House Farm Touring Park. It’s a lovely site with sea views, next to the golf course. A short walk downhill into Whitby, or there is a bus stop at the entrance. Really clean facilities. We stayed in April and would recommend from our experience

Shawn Riggs CCC CS at Ruswarp is another great site for Whitby & the NYMR. It's less than 5 mins walk to the station and there's a lovely walk alongside the line into Whitby.
