What a week !
Just when you think you have seen it all , along comes something special.
Customer swears blind that his Truma Combi has a 10 mm gas connection which was surprising to us as we have yet to see one .
So in the interest of being diplomatic our fitter asks if he can undo the fitting to check it as customer has stated it is leaking and wants to purchase some alternative fittings ⚠️
Fortunately for him it wasn’t me dealing with this 😂
The moron had only changed the supplied 8mm nut and stepped olive for a 10 mm BSP olive and nut , it fitted the male thread but obviously the pipe didn’t insert into the fitting correctly.
Someone is going to be seriously injured or worse anytime soon ⚠️

Isn't that what PTFE tape is for?😁
Interestingly enough diyers are addicted to PTFE and sealants ⚠️
Often more likely to cause a leak than help prevent one , we have seen plenty of people use so much paste that they think it’s tight but you can still pull the pipe out 🤬

Forgive my daft question- I connected my Calor for the first time yesterday- I just tightened it up with a 23mm spanner- no PTFE, no goo…
Other than a sniff test 30 minutes later I haven’t checked it- should I have done anything else?

Most don’t check but I always do with a can of leak checker. On site we change 47kg for the statics, average half dozen a day, part of our check consists of checking the freshly tightened nut plus other end of pigtails in case they’ve been moved during bottle changes. It’s not that uncommon to find the bottle connection has gouging and won’t seal properly. Also, but more rarely the actual valve on the bottle leaks.
Then you find Calor doesn’t want to take the leaking bottle back as it’s hazardous even though they delivered it like that…….

As just mentioned by shawn&emma
Definitely worth investing in some LDF (leak detection fluid)

There is always a faint smell of gas when I open our locker I’ve checked all joints with LDF on a number of occasions to no avail ,is there any reason other than a leak that the smell is evident?

One thing that people tend to ignore is changing the washers on pigtails every few years, also worth checking the regulator as they can leak from the vent.
