Hi All

From doing a search I know we have a couple of Cumbria residents that might possibly be able to help with some suggestions. I'm playing in a golf tournament at Silloth on Solway Golf Club so will be travelling up from our home in Surrey on the last weekend of April. I can see that there is a holiday park in Silloth but the reviews aren't great, so I was wondering where the local motorhomers would recommend we stay for a couple of nights? It needs to ideally be within 10-15 minutes of the golf club and sea views would be nice too if such a location exists?

Any suggestions?

2 Aikshaw cottages is a CCC cs, less than 6 miles from the golf club. From £10 A night but that will be for a tent.
It has grass only pitches, no ehu. Also a little inland.
Never been there, only know because I'm a ccc member and I checked out your requirements.

I take it you looked at Stanwix? They have two sites in Silloth, one all singing and dancing with the club etc and a quieter one a bit further down which is Hyltons nearer the town. TBH and no offence to the residents, its a bit tired in Silloth.

We have stayed at a cl/cs called Heather Banks within walking distance of golf club but cant find it now. The couple who had it were quite elderly so may have given up.
May be worth asking Golf club if you could park up there.

Found the details but as I say don't know if still open

When I looked on ccc website the only one listed is 2 Aikshaw cottages.

A bit further away, but within the 10-15 minutes drive, Old Kiln Farm at Allonby is a CMC CL, with excellent sea views. If you’re not a CMC member, I think they also have an overflow field which is presumably not a CL.
Alternatively the Lowther Arms in Mawbray is a community owned pub with a small campsite at the rear - no sea views, though.
Here
A bit further away, but still only 15-20 minutes is the harbourside site at Maryport Marina.
There are wild camping possibilities in the area as well.

Can't help with sites but John is well jealous, great golf course.

We are Cumbrian and visit Silloth often.

My wifes Sister was the Lady Captain at Silloth some years ago!!

It looks like you are visiting between Easter and Early May Bank Holidays. The nearest site to the Golf Club is indeed Stanwix which is quite commercial with swimming pools, bars etc. We've never stayed in the MH but often looks full during the season.

There is another similar site the other end of Silloth, the Solway Holiday Park which again is commercial.

The CL Heather Bank is at Blitterlees, south of Silloth and is actually one field away from the 'turning point' of the Golf Course. We drove past on Saturday but never noticed if the sign was still there!!

If you carry on down down the coast towards Allonby, there is a village called Beckfoot where there is Rowanbank caravan Site. This is a mainly Static site but they have a few touring pitches.

Further on there are a couple of wilding spots of the road on shingle/sand hardstanding. These have sea views ( you're almost on the beach!)

Further on is Bank End CL which is attached to a Garden/Visitor Centre. Set amongst dunes, it is near the beach but you cannot see the sea.

Silloth itself has loads and loads of free MH parking right on the beach but the odious 'No Overnighting' signs have appeared!!

There was a CL on the B5302 Silloth side of the village of Abbeytown but the property was sold last year and I am unsure if the site is still open. It was called Horn House Farm.

Horn House would be about 20/30 min away.

Might also be be worth checking if there are any events on in Silloth itself as some of them, Steam Fairs, Beer or Music Festivals allow MH parking on the Green next to the events.

Favourite for me though would be ringing the Golf Club itself, as said above, and asking if you can overnight there. There are some big parking areas for the Club.

The Rugby Club is next door so might be worth ringing them?
