I thought I would post a note for the cyclists and walkers amongst you for a great event held in France every year. It is called the Semaine Federal and next year it is Cognac. It tends to be the first week in August. Link is below.

Upwards of 10,000 plus cyclists turn up of all abilities and ages. Electric bikes of all sorts are catered for as well and there are routes for all abilities. Day trips for walkers are arranged and a ‘Federal’ village at the temporary campsite is set up. You can buy food, meals, bread etc. here. I have never seen such a large temporary campsite!
We didn’t stay in the federal campsite (10 euro per night) as there was no shade and very high temperatures, so opted for another campsite about 10 km way with a pool and shade but a lot more expensive! Pays your money takes your choice!. There were loads of cyclists at this site as well.
Entry fee is 50 Euro for ‘etrangers’ for the weeks cycling – it is not closed roads but with the volume of cyclists it almost could be! You can book rooms, which were 15 euro plus 5 euro for breakfast if you don’t fancy camping,
We had a great week, mixing it up with solo riders on the tandem and had great banter with the French. My stoker (wife) speaks good French, so it was great fun if not a little tiring!
Would we go again yep – sadly not next year as we are pencilled in for a tandem rally in the Pyrenees.
