Sadly we have to sell our Autotrail motorhome due to health reasons. We know the approximate value of it and someone from a dealer is coming to view it soon. If a price is agreed, what is the procedure for transfer of ownership? If the payment is transferred into our account, is that the end of the matter and cannot be reversed? Sorry if seems a naive question, but this is the first time that we’ve done this so not too sure of the procedure.

Hi , sold mine to dealer Somerset motor homes last year after my wife passed away , they came to my house after agreeing price on the phone , inspected it , damp check etc , then he electronically put the money in my bank , which I checked , he did then sent necessary paperwork electronically to DVLA which I received an email to confirm it had been transfered before I gave him the keys to drive away

Sorry to hear that you have to sell, but why not put it on the MHF classifieds ...? It won't hurt to try ...?

Hi Terry. Thanks for your swift reply. So sorry to hear of your wife’s passing. It must have been incredibly sad and upsetting to sell something representing a life that you both enjoyed. I know how I would feel if that was to happen to me. My case is different as health issues have forced me to hand my licence in so I can’t even re apply until the end of the year so we decided that the best course would be to sell now just before the season starts and hopefully get the best price. The main worry I had was that if the money showed in our account online that there was no way that it could be reversed. I didn’t know about transferring paperwork electronically to DVLA. so thanks for pointing that out to me. Is that an instant transaction or do I have to sit around with the dealers awaiting confirmation? Thanks, Ken.

I sold my last one to a dealer in 2022 following an accident that left me unable to use the Fiat handbrake next to the door.
A decent price was agreed on a phone call and some photos and a few days later two guys arrived in a nice Mercedes car. The driver stayed in the car while the buyer was with me.
After a good look round with a professional damp meter, the guy picked up on some bonnet paint peeling and the dash display having the ghost led issue (both reasonably common) and said the bonnet would cost about £175 and the clocks about £175 also so would I discount him £350.
I said the bonnet issue was on the photos already sent so that was declared but agreed that the clocks were faulty and I didn’t realise. I offered £125 as they get both trade price repairs and the vat back which was ok with him.
He transferred the money in full, completed the paperwork including a proper headed receipt of purchase and got his driver to take it away.
I was totally happy with the whole experience.

Did they deal with the 'paperwork ' through DVLA as well?

You can/should update DVLA to be sure (once you're satisfied payment is secured).

You'll need the 11 digit reference number from the latest vehicle log book (V5C)

Alternatively you could try Select Motorhomes, Simon is a member and advertise on this Forum . Not sure where you are but they will travel to inspect collect and sell at their premises in Devon. Mine is with them now!
