Hi Everyone,

We are looking to be away for a few months next year and would like to break our camping up abit and leave our camper for a 3 or 4 nights at a time and do some rail journeys and hotel stops. This will mainly be in Spain and Portugal.
Is it just a case of booking basic campsites and just leave the camper or does anyone know of places where we can just park safely for a few days. No route planned as yet so cant be more specific atm.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Regards Pols

The only advice I can give you is make sure the insurance company doesn’t find out because if you leave it they won’t cover you if anything happens to your van

Public transport is ridiculously cheap in Portugal so you might be better basing yourself on a campsite with good transport links and travelling daily to explore somewhere in depth. Or if it’s a hotel stay you’re after, try looking for ones with larger car parks and just park your Murvi up like other guests with cars do.
Fairly sure the above would apply in Spain too?

As Just smiffy says, be very careful. Many insurance policies do not cover your van if you are away in it (not at your home address) and leave it unattended overnight.

This is something I've been thinking about, we are planning 3 months in the caravan, in Spain. Not sure if we will cope with such a long time in the van. The plan is if it's not going well, we will rent a flat/villa and store the caravan. I'm not sure what would happen with the caravan insurance.
