My daughter's partner does his push bike chains in a slow cooker using some sort of wax lubricant.

Blimey!
What are you going to do with half a tonne of the stuff ?
Or is that a secret as well !
:lipssealed:

Ooops, now edited to 500g. !!!!

Have you scanned the QR code.
It may reveal the secret instructions.

Ah, is that what QR codes are for? Anyway I don't have any device to scan QR codes and I'm not inclined to buy one just for that. 🥲

I clean race chains in a cheap ultrasonic jewellery cleaner with Gunk or similar.
Then place the chain in a bucket and pour over a kettle of boiling water. This will clear the chain of the residual cleaner.
Repeat if it’s a used chain.
Then wax in a slow cooker.

For my road bikes and TT bikes i wax the chains, usually around every 1000km. Have been doing it for about 4yrs now and have always used Silca as above.

The best videos for cleaning and the wax application process are the GCN ones, very clear and you’ll quickly see that the cleaning process like most prep is the actual work, applying the wax itself is the easiest part. The good news is that applying for a second time mean no need to clean the chain again, just re-wax.

An old mate of mine used to do a bit of windsurfing where you have to "wax" the upper surface of the board to stop you slipping off. He was recommended to buy some "Dr Zog's Sex Wax" and the instructions suggested "place somewhere warm before use" He decided to put it on top of his old crt television which got quite warm in use.
His elderly parents came by for a visit and his Dad grabbed him by his arm, taking him to one side saying "Do you think you could move that stuff off the telly before you Mum sees it !"
