Off to Aviemore in a few weeks and now it's getting close the tyres in snow concern me. Have michelin campers and they are only 18 month old, away in freezing temps at minute and in the frozen slush they about hold out. We have chains and that was originally the plan.
I know it's been raised about all terrains but could we use these for most of the time and fit originals in height of summer. Can't afford to throw cash at all seasons and lose money on perfectly good mild weather tyres that will last maybe 3 more years as they have covered maybe 7k in 18 months.. What's a set worth on ebay £250 all four michelins.
On other hand can't afford Bfg so would be going for falken wildpeak etc. Done it before in T6 california with standard tyres but was lucky with snowfall...

If the weather becomes so bad that chains are required the road will have been closed. We live in Scotland and have never needed chains despite enjoying Hogmanay in the Highlands a number of times. Ordinary tyres are fine, good driving technique is needed, no more.

Like WillH we spend every Hogmanay at our home in the Highlands - we’ve never had to turn round yet despite some pretty hairy weather and having to travel up hairpins and down a very steep hill. I would buy a plastic shovel or two - we have needed to dig our way out once and use grit from the bins to get up the hairpins.
