Thinking of doing this in March, if anyones done it is it easy enough to get round and just turn up at sites for a night to hook up or is Booking the way to do it ?. Also any Recommendations for any sites on the way round will be gladly accepted, Many Thanks.
loads of ways round depending on how much of it you want to do, how much time you have, and which way. Lots of poeple keep away form the highlands the first time, or only do certain part slower.
Sites, they will be quiet in march but pre planning ensures a place and loads to choose from.
plenty of info on here if you search NC500 or youtube.
The only problem you may have is all sites may not be open, however there are plenty "off grid" places to park up for the night providing you are considerate. There are sites open but do your homework first.
My own preference is to travel anti clockwise, keep your fuel tank topped up and bring warm clothing. March can be a glorious month but the weather can also be very changeable.
Have a great trip.
Have a read of THIS, we did when we toured in August/September and found it to be helpful. We tended to book the day in advance, where we were able to, but some sites like the fantastic located one at Ullapool does not take bookings.
I also posted THIS thread on here so it may be of help. We went up to a wedding at Tongue and made a 6 week trip of it so not really the NC500 as such
