Schoolboy error, should I be worried?

Have you not got a switch to turn the pump Off Dave, our Pilote is the same gas only, I have drained ours down here in Spain, because it's not used and we wash out and start fresh when we leave.

Our last Rapido had electric and gas, ;) but being warm when we were in it, we hardly needed it, and rarely have electric.:rofl: Bob.

Globecars don't have isolating switches for the pump, when the control panel is on so is the pump. I'm contemplating putting a switch in-line so we don't run the risk of putting the control panel on and burning the pump out as it's not easily heard.

Blimey that's not very good, we are always running out of water. It will be on the globecar modification thread now. Bob.

I fitted a isolation switch to our Globecar pump quite easy to do Dave, I found the positive to the pump and cut the wire then extended the cut wires to where I fitted the on off switch.

Giz a clue where the positive is to save me scrabbling around! :D

On the top of the water tank there are quite a few wires 2 of which go to the water pump I just cut the positive wire extended the now 2 wires to an on and off switch near to the wardrobe by the steps.

Just a thought.
Would the dump valve still open if there was no water in the system but the temp was low enough. IE: does it work on water temp or ambient air temp?

They work on ambient air temp. Even when drained down, if it has been cold I have to reset mine.

We used to pull the fuse but eventually got around to fitting a switch as well
Our old van had a switch on the control panel which was handy
As Neakender says easy to install

Having been FT in a fully winterised van for many years in hot climes, this is kinda new to me, albeit I know what I should’ve done!

Parked our new (to us) Globecar with Truma system on folks drive last night, about 25% water in the tank plus the boiler. Stayed in the house, van left off of leccy and gas. Woke up to a very heavy frost, and a frozen van, taps and all:rolleyes: ( needless to say, currently in U.K.)

The dump valve was primed, but hadn’t dumped the boiler.....

Have whacked the heating on full and she’s warming up nicely now, and just starting to get a trickle from the taps.

Stupid boy should’ve either left it on or dumped all the water manually last night, won’t make that mistake again :p

Anyway, will dump it all later and plug in an oil rad for the next few nights, whilst she’s on the drive, and keep my fingers crossed.

Whadya reckon, just the one night, will I get away without a repair bill

Roll on February to get back to Spain and Portugal (y)

I’m sure you’ll get it sorted ,however, was there a moment or two or three when you thought, this never happened with the Carthago

I converted our Hymer to a pressure system so had to put a micro switch on the blue button to switch the pump off if the dump valve let go, while I was at it I also fitted a relay in the line which switched the pump off when the engine was running, energised by the +D feed to the fridge. On our last van a cupboard door opened on a bumpy road and swung against a tap and turned it on, dumping all our water without us knowing about it.
Steve

See what you done now Dave, you started a new globe car mod thread:)

I wont have these problems once I get back to the Sun .........my biggest issue will be arguing with the missus over food Vs beer in the small fridge :rofl::cheers:

Small fridge Big problem

My Hymer was the same but the pump connection was under a flap near the dining table. I put a switch adjacent to it.

Actually no, my other Globecar mod ( ) was fitting extra 12v sockets so I can run my 12v cool box..........exclusively for beer :drink:

When you get back to Portugal with your caravan you will be able to get a big fridge/freezer and a beer fridge to go in the awning:).....that's if the electric is up to it!

When we had a Rimor it went into a local place for the hab check, we left it for a few days as they were also sorting other bits for us but when we went to collect it we found that they hadn't drained down the water system ... problem was that we'd had minus temperatures and the water in the on-board water tank was frozen! Fortunately no lasting damage was done but it was a bit worrying at the time!

dave i would swop the water tank and fit a barrel and use the fridge for water

We have the same, so made a sign to go over control panel when we park up and drain down.

One cold night last year cost me a replacement shower mixer tap complete.

I had forgotten to unscrew the hose and drain the lead. Left taps wide open, but still split the case as it froze.

Pretty powerful stuff is this freezing water.

Shouldn’t laugh, but having thought I’d gotten away with it, exactly what you’ve described is what has happened!
Fortunately, it’s covered under warranty, so now just a case of getting it done. Ho hum !

I think you'll find this sort of damage won't be covered by warranty as it hasn't been caused by a fault, but by it not being drained down, ie user error ... sorry! :(

Bugger bugger bugger bugger bugger, hope you get it sorted soonest.

Like I’d tell them that.........;)
I think it was a leaky fitting I only found on removing an inspection panel. All sorted through RAC MH platinum warranty. (y)

... hope they don't read this forum then!:ROFLMAO:

Reading this thread, I thought to ask a question.
My MH has an electrically actuated dump valve, which of course is left in the 'dumped' position at the moment.
In this position does it still draw some current?

TIA
