Schengen Border Control Experiences - Please Add Yours

Yes, But all l got was don’t worry and of course the Policia etc say nothing just have a mean look on their faces
Always good to strike up a conversation...tell them a joke...I've got one...Tell them this...
"There were these two gay Spanish Cops...they went into a bar and ordered...Ouch,🥴 Ouch.🥴.. don't hit me I've not finished🤕...ouch that hurts...🥴 Didn't give me chance to finish...my word these handcuffs are tight...watch what ya doing with that batton....,🤔

This is a strange string as the EU and the Schengen Agreement are two separate entities. The UK wasn’t part of the Schengen Agreement and the border controls at all entry points have always been maintained.
As the UK are no longer part of the EU, the British are now treated entering the EU, the same as any other entering from another non EU country.
HM Customs are another separate authority that are only concerned with those entering the UK over the legal allowance.

Off topic I know, but just wondered what your Rosslare to Bilbao crossing was like. Do they have dog cabins like the other BF Spanish routes do?

We only live 12 miles from both Fishguard and Pembroke Dock ports (both sailing into Rosslare) so I could in effect only have to drive those 12 miles to be in northern Spain from West Wales. Tempting but I suspect expensive.
In a tardy response to your question re. Dog Cabins, I’m afraid we’re not pet owners so it’s something we never considered or noticed. Sorry.

Did they count the days of your previous visits?

I wouldn’t expect anyone to have any issues (because we’re all good law abiding citizens 😎) but am curious about how often border staff actually check compliance with the 90/180 day limit.👍

Never saw the Border Control peeps counting their fingers and thumbs or sucking their teeth so I guess we were well within our limits.
We did take advantage of dairy products and fresh meat as we were travelling from Rosslare.
Happy touring 😃

My understanding is meat and dairy for personal consumption is ok. Reckon the only time there may be a problem is if the border guard has forgotten his lunch.

Personal consumption does not come into the legislation. Lorry drivers were having their butties taken from them.

Just rechecked and I was wrong. The ban on any dairy and meat from the uk to eu is correct. The personal consumption bit is for travelling within the eu. Thank goodness I didn’t know that or guilty would have been written all over my face on arrival in France! Sorry to have misled.

Don't fret, we've been three times since 'B' and never been questioned nor checked. Many people have reported exactly the same with the only ones I can recall having had any checks where some who landed in Santander/Bilboa (can't remember exactly).

I really don't think the French are worried about a bit of bacon or sausage coming in.

Last time we sailed Roscoff to Cork on the Pont d' Aven there were no Dog Friendly cabins, I certainly would not consider using the kennels again for our dog especially for the length time it takes to get to Spain.

No - we'd want to book a dog friendly cabin if we were to do it. Realistically, we're unlikely to do it, it just catches my imagination that within 12 miles of driving from our home in West Wales we could be in northern Spain.

I Use the schengen calculator on google so hopefully its correct im more anxious about taking dog out in jan first time on dpanish passport!! Amyone had any issues ie questions as to how shes spanish😳
My dog has a Belgium passport and I travel on an Irish one- never had a question.

We are french residents so never have our passports stamped travelling to and from the UK. Interestingly travelling from France to Spain by air they are not interested in seeing our passports just residency cards although technically the 90 days in Spain or any other Schengen country should still apply.

Our fitter at work went out last weekend via Eurotunnel, and hit them on shift change, subsequently they never stamped their passports, he got the stern 20 questions when they came back, wanted to know where they’d been, proof of bookings and outward ET booking, and said they could fine all 3 of them if he so wished, they was very angry apparently🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤔

Edit They came back via Dover Calais ferry
You get a fine because they failed to do their job. Sound like the UK civil service.

I as Polish Resident am in the same situation.

But they cannot stamp a plastic card.

Surely it’s the French authorities that stamp you’re passport🤔 nothing to do with UK 😊

It is. However it sounds like the UK civil service work ethic.
The tax man gets your tax wrong and it's your fault.

Just been to Ireland for a week from Fishguard to Rosslare and back, didn’t check passports… just on and off the other side, so good for Spain in December 😎
It's a money thing! The Irish can't believe their luck.
