There's nothing special about the QR code. It's just a regular web site address. So unless the website does something magical (I didn't check)... which is unlikely... I think it's just a regular phishing scam.

So I think this is probably just fake news.

But it's still not bad general advice. QR codes are an easy way to lead someone to a site they didn't intend to go to. Always be skeptical when using one.
 
I get these warnings from acquaintances in the area.
Some may be fake but in good faith I thought it best to put it out there just in case.
We can all decide whether to take any notice or not.
