I need to buy a new Satnav preferably 8" or thereabouts screen size. Being user friendly and easily programmable is important. Any suggestions or advice from recent purchasers would be greatly appreciated please.

We have had a Zenec which has been good but it's died.

Thanks

Welcome

no longer use a dedicated sat nav, I have Garmin Camper but I found it slow at routing.

I now use an iPad or iPhone and Google maps.. fast and accurate.

Interesting. I have Garmins on my motorbikes and never had an issue. What do you mean by slow at routing?
it's slow at plotting a new route ,
for example try, plotting from your home to say Madrid .. see how long it takes , then check using Google maps

that's not a deal breaker, I just prefer Google maps>>

I can plot on the iPad and adjust the route using the touch screen ..
i can also route directly from any of the camper apps such as Camper Contact, Search For Sites etc .. or from a Google search .. all on one device.

but each to their own.. that is just my preferences..

Google maps is real time as well for new routes or holdups

I use an old tablet with a free app called Magic Earth. It's fantastic. Compatible with Android auto and Apple Carplay as well, can put in vehicle dimensions, gives live GPS speed and speed limits. You can also download maps if you want o save data by navigating offline.

After much research and thought I just bought a Tomtom camper Max, vey happy with it so far, of course it has limitations as to others but I can easily overcome them. Most important for rme is traffic information and routing and this is where it excels. The interface is a vast improvement on the previous model and is almost instant as is the turning on and off, no press the button a wait.

Yep, I've been using it lately whist doing a bit of Class 1 trucking for someone, and found the App to be excellent. (y)

Google Maps are good and up to the minute almost, but you can very easilly be caught out, if driving anything larger than a panel van.

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Magic Earth is equally up to date for traffic. I've had both running to compare and with ME you can specify how long the delay is before being notified that there is a delay. I don't know whether it's tapping into Google Maps live data but it definitely works for sure!

I was using mine offline initially as I was on PAYG, but now on a rolling contract and online, I'll look at traffic updates.

Thanks. (y)
