Hi everyone, I've an oyster caro digital satellite system on a camper I just purchased (my 2nd one ) the dish was missing so I purchased a new one from the makers in Germany, I fitted it today but the arm is not rising up its turn but because its not rising up its hitting the air con pod , I'm thinking there's a gear or motor not engaging any thoughts would be helpful thanks.

Thanks Anthony that sounds like the problem the bolt was loose I was able to lift the arm up when I tightened it it stayed up but I thought I done it to tight so slackened it off to put dish down , look like I just need to tighten it up when dish is down in travel position. Thanks I'll try it when I get home tonight.
Yeah that'll be it then. Easiest way to carry out the reset is as follows:
If the system is in standby (green dot in small display) turn it on as normal and, after 5 seconds, press the exit button on the remote to stop the system dead. Go up and loosen the 13mm bolt and lay the system in the closed position then return inside and press the off button on the remote to retract. (This will allow the mechanics to...
could the satellite have been installed wrongly, hence the lack of a dish? or could the air con have been fitted after and they they realised the sat dish wouldnt work, so they chose air con over the sat dish?

if you can, can you get the sat dish off the roof and try it on the ground? if it does need some sort of repair it might be better off on the ground anyway?

It's a 2010 van and it has all the original documents with it as far as I can tell its factory fitted, I'll probably have to take it apart and check the mechanism for rising the arm

The dish should raise first, and then rotate to hunt for the signal (assuming it is self searching?). In which case the dish should not conflict with your air con (assuming it is not on that arc.

I can only comment on my Oyster V which I removed recently because the PCB board has packed up.

If It rises its not in conflict with the Aircon pod it rotates so its something to do with the rising/ lowering motor

Have you tested the rise motor? It sounds like its either that or a command problem with it not being activated by the software? There are experts on here that know a-lot about these.

Best of luck👍🏼

Haven't tested it as I've no way of doing it, if it's software it's way over my head , I'm OK at fixing stuff myself but computer stuff I suck at it 🙃

Satellite appears to be old hat nowadays. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. You would of been better off investing with an onboard wifi system. Here is a down to earth guide At the Chester food festival rally I counted four dishes raised amongst hundreds of motorhomes. Hope you manage to resolve your issues though.

Until you travel somewhere where internet,/data is expensive .... Whilst I wouldnt invest in a new sat dish setup, if one already exists I would try to get it working

When you are looking to buy a pre loved motorhome and find one that suits you, you don't often get a choice of what extras it comes with.
As for satellite being old hat, maybe for TV it is becoming that way but Starlink is a satellite system .,....

I was at Bonterra Park , Benicassim 5 weeks past and high percentage of European motorhomes all had Satellite dishes and were using them
it was like satellite city :laughing::laughing:

onboard Wi-Fi is all very well , I have it fitted but I had numerous instances where the phone signal was crap / weak and tv picture just constantly buffering so far from reliable especially in remote areas

Good morning pj Moorehouse

From what I've read in your opening post I'm assuming that the elevation motor is running however the dish itself it not raising. If the dish doesn't lift at all then the first thing to check would be the 13mm bolt on the side of the main casing of the roof unit. If that nut is loose then gearing will not be attached to the mechanics properly meaning that it will either not raise at all or it will be slipping when turned on so not raising enough.
If I'm right then you would need to get the electronics set so that the system thinks it's retracted and then go up onto the roof and tighten that 13mm nut (to 70nm torque if you have a torque wrench) with the dish flat and then it should operate as normal. If that doesn't work or I'm misunderstanding the problem then you can PM me on here or call the office on 01858575928 where we can discuss and I can advise further.
It's also worth noting that the Digital variants have have had a software issues this year due to frequency changes made to the Astra 2 network so if the electronics have not been updated in the last 6 months your receiver may well not find Astra 2 until the system has had an update.
I hope this helps.

Also many thanks Lee Rasberry for the tag.

(This will allow the mechanics to retract without and set without moving the dish arm)
Once it's back on the green dot go back up and tighten the bolt (70nm torque if poss) and then should be able to operate as normal.

If you get any problems we have a messenger service on Facebook that I monitor over the weekend so just give me a shout if you need me. (https://www.facebook.com/oyster.satellite)
