Hi going to Santander and wondering best option either go straight to San Sebastián or a site within 30 miles we can get train/bus into San Sebastián. We are in VW T5 celex .

We really like the aire at San Sebastian
Parking Autocaravanas San Sebastián

From there you can walk into town, the old town is about a 40 min walk though the modern town before there is nice and lively. We like the nearby Caffe Etna for a coffee and cake, and we also like the a nearby restaurant, Mogambo Taberna, very friendly and they do a nice menu del dia. 🙂

We parked roadside near the university no charge. Then cycled into old town flat cycle along promenade.
We were there 3-4 weeks ago and noticed there weren't any motorhomes parked there, we'd always seen them before so wondered if they'd tightened up. Anyway, it's now 5 euros a night, inc water and waste, payable by machine. Btw, on the machine, the bottom right segment on the touch screen is for language, otherwise it's in Basque. 🙂

To be fare the university was closed when we were there high summer. Perhaps that is the reason. The roads around that area were empty.

We have previously used a car psrk above the football stadium. It was available and foc when last there 5 years ago.

Always park at the aire by the University. Great access to the beach and old town.

Last time we were there we camped at the La Rosaleda campsite just outside of town on hill.
Swimming pool snack bar and bar

As above regarding the Aire at the University. Regular buses into the centre or a leisurely stroll. Call at the Tourist Information for a map of the best tapas bars. Great place for a couple of nights.

I hate the Aire in town.
Really, I know it’s a bit tight but for a couple of nights it’s an ideal spot for popping in and out of SS.

Additionally if any one is interested in architecture there is a small residential development immediately above the site which has 20+ individually designed houses. It’s worth a walk round if you have a spare 30 mins.

You can park for free all day and overnight on Sunday's in this car park. I posted about it in the thread below on page 1;

You MUST be off by 9am Monday morning or you will get a ticket!!

There's a nice restaurant very nearby called Aldaba Jatetxea. Great service, lovely freshly cooked food and very reasonable prices. We eat there often when we stay at the Hotel Antik.

Orio for us as well, bigger pitches by the pool area,10/15 min walk to train station and they went all the time in august couldnt beat it launguage very hard though in the basque area

We stay at Camping Orio and get the train in, I hate the Aire in town.
That's what we did too. The campsite is fine. Bit of noise from motorway but only a short walk to train station. Few bars and restaurants in Orion itself but they close at 3=and don't reopen till about 9pm..

Thanks for the help/advice, think we will to one of the sites mentioned then train in to centre 👍🏻

We stayed at a good campsite in Zumai, which is 10 minute walk to the station. Its about a 30 minute train ride into San Sebastián.

Zumai is a nice small harbour town and well worth walking around with some good restaurants.

We stayed last April at the arena aire/carpark, never saw any signs asking for payment has it changed?

I don't know. My post was about the car park next to the Hotel Antik.

We also stopped at we camp San Sebastián..bus stop right outside the main gate into town

Will go to one of the sites for two nights before heading into France depending on the weather. Again thanks for all suggestions as I prefer sites to Aires for the first 3-4 days.
