Just read post about what you can take abroad, prompted me to to tell you about a Nurse who's husband contracted Salmonella, the virus attached it self to his artificial knee ( I'm not quite sure the bone the joins the artificial knee, lot of noise in hospital) he had to have artificial knee removed for 12 months ,used wheel chair , so, just be careful if food is not kept cold when on your travels especially with artificial joints. Happy Christmas everyone

Salmonella is not a virus .
Many bacteria ( usually sexually transmitted) can cause joint infections .
All food ( no matter where you are ) should be stored and cooked correctly .
These sort of scare mongering threads are what makes the internet a very dangerous place .

So I got a the virus bit wrong, but my wife had a appointment with her Consultant to see how her new knee replacement was doing whilst there the wife of the husband who had this infection, ( she was a Ex nurse who worked in Orthopaedics) told us about her husband I don't know if you are a Medical Expert or not I am only telling her story what she said in the hospital waiting room, I'm not scare mongering, I had no idea about this is until she chatted to us .

Staph aureus is the bug that most commonly causes bone and joint infections, not usually sexually transmitted ones. MRSA is of course the worst of the Staph aureus infections. They usually get in at the time of operation . Staph aureus is a normal skin bug.

Salmonella is most unusual.

I'm not sure whether I feel comforted or saddened that my joints haven't been at risk of that since 10.45 on the evening of June 9th 2012.

You had a 'Bobbit' then? :giggle:

Unfortunately my neighbour’s son-in-law contracted salmonella poisoning when eating out a few months ago. It was so bad he was hospitalised and it turned into Salmonella septic arthritis (SSA) which I had never heard of before. It has completely disabled him and is very painful and he has been unable to drive or to work. He had no health or joint problems before. I think the road to recovery will be a long one.
