Hi and regards to all I'm sailing to Spain on 21st march the port is Bilbao my question is there a safe place to park and leave the van so my good lady and i can spend a few days in the city before moving on part two of my post is that we would like to do the same in Madrid I would not want to park right inside the city centre anywhere outside would be fine as we like to use public transport and my wife speaks Spanish. Thanks for any and all replies

We stopped here for 2 or 3 nights in Madrid. Free car park. Nice lake location. Popular with locals for chilling, running, etc so felt very safe. A few other motorhomes there when we were there. A pleasant 20 mins or so walk to central tourist Madrid.

You need to be careful there are no events on if you are there at a weekend. We got blocked in for 24 hours as there was a triathlon on. Wasn't a problem for us.

Take a look at this place on Google Maps https://maps.google.com/?cid=13228708130293965305&entry=gps

We stayed at Zamudio whilst visiting Bilbao, we seem to remember it is a free aire outside of main city with the train station 5 minute walk across the road from the site. Trains run every 30 minutes.

The aire high above Bilbao is handy for the city with the bus stop almost outside the gates. It’s about 15 mins to the centre. It has fantastic views across to the Guggenheim and the new Athletico Bilbao football stadium, more so at night. The only drawback is there is not a lot very nearby.

Right under the flight path of the airport. Could be noisy.

Thanks for all your help we will look at all these options we did the same last year in Granada and cadiz and because we stayed in hotels near the centre we felt we got nearer the real essence of Spain
