Hi all, does anyone have a solarcharger with S+ connected to the fridge? You are supposed to able to (partially) run the fridge on 12V with a solar panel in stead of running on gas in an off-grid situation. I'm curious if anyone has that and what the experience is.

The reason I'm asking is that our camper came with a solarpanel with PWM charger and I plan to replace the charger with an MPPT one and am wondering if it is worth the trouble of getting one with S+ and running a wire to the fridge.

With one solar panel it’s not worth it.

Did it on the last van using a Votronic Solar Controller had 300 Watts of solar worked OK in Spain. As Steve says not worth it with one panel.

On our previous motorhome with a 300w solar panel, the S+ connection would run the fridge on 12v continuously in daylight hours, but that was in Spain in the winter. Not sure what it would be like in the UK but it does monitor your battery voltage and switch back to mains or gas if necessary.

If you use a victron mppt with the load output functionality (I think up to 20amp) you can use the AES function for your S+.
