Hi Folks

My 2018 Fiat Ducato has a bit of rust just starting on one rear wheel arch. Any tips on how best to repair this myself? Is it worth using a rust inhibitor?

Cheers.

What about taping the outer edge (for overspray) and using a stone chip product like is usually on the sills?

Rub it down give it coat of rust inhibitor leave to dry and then a coat of primer leave for 24 hrs and then top coat to your colour

for the primer use a very high zinc content one. Acts like galvanising. Once painted and dried apply fluid film or Lanoguard.

I'd scrape the rust scab off, then rub it down with P80 keeping the repair area to a minimum, use gaffa tape to protect the surrounding area, keep the repair strictly on the wheel arch flange ONLY.
Try and get all the rust out the pitted area (small shotblast would be prefect but you are unlikey to have one of those) Once done use an etch primer over the bare metal area (you can brush if you wish, if you spray watch out for overspray, it goes furthur then you think!)
Leave to totally dry.
Clean the area thoroughly, t-cut or compound
Then use a bit of PU sealer and smear it over the primer, doesn't have to be flat, infact my front wheel arches have nice smudges on it from new. The PU is good at repelling stones and they bounce of it.
Allow it to dry.
Paint with correct colour, brushing will work as the PU is not smooth.
Keep the whole repair to an absolute minimum or you will end up needing the paintshop

Galvanising doesn't stop rusting it just delays when it start and how fast it progresses. The zinc basically sacrifices itself until it runs out. A thin galv coating will wear out quicker than a thick one for example.
