I have a small rust bubble on the top of my 2019 Rapido, is this something I should be worried about? What are the options for sorting this out, warranty claim? Sort it out myself, if so how?
Is it on the van roof? A local body repair shop manager told me that the Fiat metallic grey paint peeling on the roof is a common problem. Exacerbated by water pooling not draining. It cost me £220 plus VAT for paint correction to sort this out.
I don't know if Rapido's warranty covers your problem. My 2017 Rapido Van was out of warranty anyway.
It really depends on how big the bubble is and how much paint comes off when you expose the extent of the patch. And where exactly it is.
It certainly needs dealing with but if it’s very small you could treat it and touch up, if it’s anything more then it’s worth getting a professional opinion and quote.
Fiat paint has a bit of a reputation for separation from its primer coat.
Paint separation, caused by using incompatible primer and top coat my refinisher told me, was really only a problem on the early Sevel vans - 2007/9 - I haven't heard of this on later models. I had to have the bonnet completely stripped and redone and now the windscreen surround is starting to flake and peel so another visit to a decent bodyshop is on the cards.
But paint separation rarely caused rust so I would think the OP problem is more localised, say a stone chip getting out of hand, or improper preparation at the manufacture stage. No idea about warranty but agree if you cannot see to it yourself then perhaps someone like Chips Away could help?
