I've seen in various places on the forum about the term "low mileage" being used as a selling point for a motorhome/PVC and how low mileage isn't a good thing unless its a new-ish vehicle.

I've been looking at various PVCs aged between 7 and 10 years (roughly) - what would a good figure be for something that age?

5000miles per year is about right

Our last van was our only vehicle 2012 and 56000 in 6 years so just over 9000 a year, providing a vehicle has been serviced, ours was over serviced because it was done every year and never gave any problems.(y)
I would rather see something used, than stood around most of its life. Bob.

Same here 8-10 thousand a year, used as a Moho & daily driver

Current van has 53k & is 7 years old

It gets serviced every 2 years as per the schedule, but I try not to do short journeys, the shops are only a 2 or 3 mile round trip, so I walk.

My van previous had 136k and was 12 years old when I sold it (wanted a bigger van)

Full service history, IMHO is essential

As others have said, it is better for a vehicle to be used rather than standing around

I do have 4 motorbikes & do about 6k a year in total on them, but they are only used for having fun on - not errands!

95000 miles in 9 years, serviced annually and used throughout the year, average 150 nights p.a. We bought it to use it, not be a driveway queen.

I once bought an extremely low mileage car, from a retired guy who only used it once a week to go to the shops. Lasted 500 miles and needed a full engine overhaul.

In my neck of leafy Sussex a motorhome parked in a drive isn't a status symbol and many are little used. I'm told that many are actually parked in bungalow driveways, but we find ours soo convenient for Founders Day at Goodwood and it does amuse one whilst one's yacht is being delivered to Monaco or one's children are entertaining house guests at one's cottage. ;)

I don't know anyone with a Motorhome of any type that does that lower mileage.
You do now, averaged about 4000 mile a year for the last 3 years, this is due to being parked up in Spain for 6 months and not bothering to do France in Summer. Van still used every week though when at home.

Thanks for all the replies, its given me a bit more confidence on mileage and age.

We wouldn't be using it as a daily drive because we have cars already for that, but would be using for a few weeks away, plus as many weekends as we can squeeze in (at least one a month) - can't do more longer holidays as Mark's still working.

We're still no further forward in what to get, the only definite is that we have to wait until next year as the finances won't be in place until then.

That was pretty well the situation we were in when we first started looking. It actually took the pressure off a bit and enabled us to do a proper and thorough evaluation of what we wanted, including hiring twice to check things out. So when we were ready we knew exactly what we wanted and were fortunate in finding it. Still very happy after 9 years.
