Gave moho a wash today. The roof is black and needs some serious attention. Is it safe to clamber over it or should I get a board to spread the weight. Not keen on doing it off a tall step ladder especially as I don't have one.

I use a short board wrapped in a towel to kneel on to spread the weight and not damage the roof.

I just climb all over it. 13 and half stone of rippling muscle but i dont go up on the Luton part.

I suppose it depends a lot on what weight you are and if you are happy with heights. Weighing in at a hefty 62kgs or, 9st 11pds old money I crawl around the roof of my van a Hymer, without any problem.

I would always use cushioning of some sort, old carpet etc, unless it had chequerplate in place.

Always walked around on the roof of my vans. Even fitted ladders for plane spotting and peering over airfield fences.
Not fallen through.............yet. :):)

17 1/2 stone of fat boy here is for ever wandering about on the van roof

It’s time to wash the roof of our AutoSleepers Kingham

I am thinking I will use a ladder with foam taped to it to avoid scratching the vans paint, wife will be wearing her rain coat and I will carefully as possible jet wash it.

Does this sound like a plan ?

You can hire my very well trained ginger roof monkey for the task, at very competitive rates, if it helps? ;)

Aye it’s fine. Get up and get on with it. Just be aware it can be very slippery when wet.(y)

Well seems as if I have run out of excuses and will have to crack on with it, when the weather is better of course. My last excuse.

Also, be very careful if you decide to polish the roof.
I thought it would be smart to polish a small, rather mucky area of roof, on our first MoHo. Gawd, it was like an ice rink to walk on, very dangerous.

I think it also depends on what model of van you have and how old /condition

Some aren't as strong to stand on as others

I have just cleaned mine, I have a multi ladder so put it in straight ladder mode with rubber tube around the top styles, I waited till it had been raining for a while (the rain softens it) & when it stopped, put the ladder up & cleaned it with a soft sweeping brush.
It did the job quite well, it's now white rather than dark grey!

I cleaned mine last week and just got up there together with my pressure washer. I did learn a valuable lesson though as i blew out the sealant from around one of the roof lights. Although I'm actually glad I did because the sealant was clearly on it's last legs so it gave me a chance to remove the roof light and re-seal it with nice new sealant

Hope you don't mind the mention but I don't like the angle of that ladder. :cautious:
I don't mind at all, the Ginger Roof Monkey is in the Fire Service and is allegedly certified for "Working at Height". She places the ladder, I foot the ladder as required. :)

What you can't see clearly from the pic is the tiered layout of the front garden, it was a slope/bank which we dug out, secured with railway sleepers and gravelled to make an additional drive for the van. Madam likes to place the ladder on the top tier, I know not why (maybe not enough angle for her liking between van side and railway sleepers on the bottom level, I've not thought to ask).

On a positive note, she has not plunged to injury or demise as yet...
