We picked up our 5 month old 740 yesterday. Should it have a spare wheel ?

Our Autotrail doesn’t have one. It’s a weight saving thingy.

Most vans don't have one as standard, often on the options list but that is an expensive way of buying them.

Probably not , our Pilote new in 2019 came with a repair kit and tyre inflater
I added a steel spare wheel and new Michelin tyre

Most don't unless it is ordered as an extra. You should find a kit with electic pump and a can of tyre sealant that will give a temporary fix if you get a small puncture.

But no good if you have a major tyre failure, which happened to us on a cold wet November evening a few years ago. So now we have a spare wheel. BUT we were lucky because we has enough payload for it. You may find you don't.

Our 2018 model does have a spare, as we did'nt buy from new it could have been an extra.

Is your Motorhome on the fiat ccs chassis if so wheel and carrier cost me £200 and I fitted it myself.

If weight is a problem then added just a tyre is an option but you still need a place to store it.
