What did you use?

TBH crimping RJ45 is as easy as riding a bike.... I.E. It takes a while to get good at it, and there is definitely a technique.

I use the clear connectors, you can see the wiring colours more easily, and check the order is correct

Getting the wires in to the plug in the right order was the hard bit. I found the tester the most important tool and had good results eventually with cheapo chinesium tools

Hopefully this will help getting a decent crimp...

1) Strip the outer sheathing back much further than you need to.

2) Separate each conductor and straighten them by pulling them, in groups of two or three, side to side/up and down while letting your fingers slide off the end. (Left 3 have been straightened).

3) Once you have straightened all 8 conductors, holding the cable in the palm of your left hand, place your left forefinger under the conductors near to the sheathing...

4) Place your left thumb over the top to hold both the sheathing and the "base" of the conductors tightly!

5) Now you need to get the conductors in the right order. Work from left to right. Pull the first two into place and wiggle them left to right with your right forefinger and thumb, letting it slide as you wiggle, until they sit nice and flat and straight.

6) Then the same with the next two...

7) Until you have all 8 conductors in order, straight and flat...

It will look like this under your thumb...

8) Using your RJ45 as a guide cut the conductors at 90⁰ to a length where the sheathing will be crimped in the RJ45. Check the conductors are in the right order!

Without letting go, insert the conductors into the RJ45, insert into crimp tool, and push hard before crimping.

This is basically the method I developed over years of making custom fly leads, and very rarely had a cable fault.

Hope it helps.

Edit: The conductors in the Photos are in no particular order

This is the style of crimp I use...

Nice one
The only thing I’ll add, is that I run the unsheathed wires across the back of a screwdriver to straighten the wires.. a bit like running a ribbon across a scissor edge. It takes all the wiggly bits out.

far too complicated ....... strip the main covering further rhan needed, separate the wires, straighten them with a screwdriver or flat object as described above, but then put each wire in separately using pass through rj45's ....
just making sure they go into the correct 'holes' - it really is a simpler method and no chance of the wrong ordering of the connection!!

i will add photo of my tool later, 'ooer, missus ,,,,,!!!' (in a Frankie Howerd voice of course!)

Really...:ROFLMAO:

See OP..... ;)

I find it funny that the forum will scrimp and save on EU roaming, but are happy to suggest buying more (the OP already has the kit), "better" tools at higher prices will sort a one off issue out, rather than supporting learning how to use what is to hand properly.
