My thoughts too. But, will stand corrected. Bless my Auntie she forwarded it. Looking out for me.

Definitely fake.

It mentions IDP 1968 as being required for Europe but Spain requires a different number.

No country dare require visitors to take a theory and practical test in their Country or they would have no tourism.

It is true, however, that an IDP will be required in Europe if we leave with no deal. As we are due to travel in the very near future we already have our #1968, we will also need the Spanish one but we are holding off for one week to see if things are sorted out re Bre##t before committing to getting it.

Off next week so got 1949,Spain, IDP, valid for one year and 1968, most of rest of Europe, valid for 3 years £5.50 each from main post offices. Passport photo and driving licence needed at counter.

No mention of needing tests etc, looks like a spoof to me.

Announcement by the Spanish govt three weeks ago while we was there.. it was on the Spanish news..
Not word for word but whatever happens Brits will be treated exactly the same as now, and NOTHING will change as far as driving is concerned
The guy more or less said the only country that is likely to enforce ALL the regs will be France ( he then went on to specifics but I got lost then

Idp MAY be required not will be required

Unfortunately there's a lot of mays, mights, if's and buts.

I'm in Europe I've been in Europe since January I've no intention on being back in UK soon and I don't have idp or any way of getting one.

It's nonsense

But then I'm confident we are not brexiting on the 29th

Do you need a photo for each licence or will one do for both?

Post office told me France & Spain are 2 different licences, so 2 photos needed.

I have both IDPs. They both need a photo although the two licences are very similar only differing in the way they show the various classes. One of them now shows I can ride a motorbike. We came over to France yesterday, heading for Spain

Fake twatter or general banternet thread

Maybe this thread should be deleted as it's perpetuating fake news?

AFAIK it is not a myth that, in the event of a no-deal Brexit, you will need an IDP to drive in most of Europe, or two, depending on what countries you visit. The rest of the article is probably scare mongering.

I have an IDP and Green Cards for my upcoming trips - just in case. Why not? Unless the small costs are a problem.

Not having a green card doesn't make your insurance invalid, it simply proves you have insurance if stopped abroad.

I agree.

So what is the fine in each country for not having a Green Card and can it be done on the spot? If not I doubt whether they are going to prosecute if holding a standard EU format licence.

Storm in a teacup in my opinion.

Geoff

I tend towards caution.

With Mr Macron’s attitude towards Bre##t and the unrest in France regarding his taxation plans I can see regular checks being carried out on GB vehicles and “on the spot fines” being issued, if we have no reciprocal arrangements made.

At a cost of £5.50 I am prepared to pay for an IDP, just in case.

Isn’t France a disgrace?

You might think that, I couldn’t possible comment.

Stopped at a village aire on the way yesterday to dump. The farmer came out to us and much handshaking and bonhomie all round. We have always found the French to be very friendly, at least the country ones.
Parisians are different but then londoners are not typical of the English either.

April Fools- comes to mind :)
