In the past month we have stayed at two CAMC sites where we have been allocated a pitch rather than being given the option to choose . No problem with that except on both occasions the adjoining pitch has been occupied by vehicles converted on the continent with the habitation door on the right hand side . The first was a Carthago and the second a Giottivan [ I hadn't heard of that make before ] . Both vehicles were right hand drive so I would have expected the habitation door to open kerbside . I know we could have turned our van around but from pitch 49 at Wyatts Covert that would have given us a view of the Elsan disposal point . I realise sites give limited privacy but I really prefer not to have access doors and wind out awnings facing one and other . Is there a reason why a right hand drive van would have not the habitation door kerbside ?

Most Continental motorhomes are like that, presumably because most of the converters production is for continental market.
I've never really understood people's concerns about which side the hab door is on.
If you're facing each other just strike up a conversation and who knows, you may become life long friends

Edit ; I should probably add I don't use club sites

Our last three van have been RHD with hab door on the right. When booking in at reception we always point out the jab door on the right and ask if we should drive in or reverse in. Some sites have a preference some don't.

Changing the drive side Left or Right is pretty easy compared to making the whole interior of the van a mirror image just to put the habitation door on the other side, then for the owner to take it over the water and it would be wrong again

Interesting thread… our van has the jab door on the drivers side. On our first day out the PCV we met also had the door on the right… that van was also new…. Are new vans changing to the right side or is it just a coincidence?

Do you tour Europe..? Next vans door could be 5 feet from yours…😆
Or they’ll putt there table and chairs right outside your van because that’s where the sun is…☀️😳

I don’t mind having a chat with the neighbours when they come out their door….🍻☺️

It’s more that only British manufacturers put the doors on the left side. There’s many of us have coachbuilts that were built outside UK, so have the doors on the right. Perhaps you should lobby CAMC to allocate one part of their sites exclusively for British built motorhomes?

About 10yrs ago, I was on a Q&A panel and one of top C&MC hierarchy was there and the question of nose or reverse in parking came up.

He said, that "anyone could park in either direction, within the boundaries of the pitch"
I cheekily asked , if I could have that in writing, and I received it a few days later.
I always carry it in the van 👍

Can you put a copy on here please. I'm sure it would be helpful to a number of funsters

Most if not all continental vans are on the kerbside it’s just the steering wheel has been moved, when driving on the continent you will find your drivers door kerbside 😉

Hab door on right on a drive through lay-by step out straight into passing traffic oops

The only time we had someone upset because we had our hab door facing someone was actually in a aire in Spain and it was a British lady who shouted and swore at us. Very strange, I put it down to other factors in her life and ignored it. 🙁

I will try but my success rate in adding pictures to posts, so far, is about 99/1 against.

As I say, I always had it with me (somewhere) and if anyone wants to copy it, they are welcome. 👍

I wouldn’t object to your door facing ours……….

It’d be easier for you to pass me the lovely food you cook😋😋

We're on a Spanish site, never mind about the side the door is on, our neighbours are about12 inches away on 3 sides
Our kitchen window opens onto a neighbour's pitch, so we can wave and smile as we make our morning coffee. I have to remember to put something on before I open the blind 😀😀🤣🤣🤣

How many times a day do you go in and out of your hab door?
I rarely wind my awning out as I seldom sit outside my motorhome on a site, I'm off out exploring the area or taking in some local culture. Always struck me as odd that you'd drive to a site then just sit outside your vehicle

It is unusual to be told where to pitch on a CAMC site as you state above. Do you think it was because they have moved to metered electricity on that site and they need to be sure they are charging the right person?

The CAMC rules specifically say you can park facing in or out.
“b. On most pitches, outfits may be pitched nose or tail in.”
How your neighbours choose to park and where their doors are is up to them. Obviously awnings have to be erected on the allocated pitch which might affect which way they choose to face. There are an increasing number of continental vans with doors on the offside in the UK and if you are looking for more space and privacy this might be the wrong type of site for you.

Been on many many CMC sites and never been allocated a pitch .. except when I had when I had a 36ft USRV and due to size they would advise best pitch..

the club says ...

e. Specific pitches cannot be reserved as part of a booking. After arriving on site, guests may choose one of the available pitches for the pitch type that has been booked.
did you question why you were allocated a pitch .. perhaps the site was full and no other pitches available .. ?

you can pitch nose in or nose or tail in ... but on arrival I always ask

b. On most pitches, outfits may be pitched nose or tail in. Site staff will advise guests where their outfit should go in relation to the pitch marker(s). If guests wish to pitch in any other way please ask site staff.

I don't see the problem, we are at a rally at the moment there is a Brit built van next to us his door is on the wrong side (LHS) 🤣. So it's facing our door doesn't bother us, doesn't seem to bother him.
Over 40 vans here the majority have the hab door on the RHS.

On our 4th van only ever had the hab door on the RHS, when you consider the Brits only build a tiny proportion of the vans built in Europe it's the Brits that have got it wrong.

If its a big problem, get a van with a door at the rear, best of both worlds? :giggle:

A bit of a pain when you come back with your shopping and some pratt in a car has parked right behind you.

Forward planning Lenny, always leave a few feet gap in front of you? 😀
