Returned home yesterday having done around 150 miles in atrocious wet and very dirty weather. Jumped out the van, locked it and went indoors. Later in the evening as it became dark I noticed the rear indicator light was on, however, not flashing. Only way I could turn it off was to remove the light assembly and unplug it. Our local AA man had a look and diagnosed it as the wiring to the light assembly and not the assembly itself and said it was best looked at by a 'specialist'. Hopefully our local auto electrician will be able to take a look next week and in the meanwhile was wondering if anyone else had experienced a similar problem. Its a 2022 plated Ducato although the light cluster is a Swift conversion I assume

It’s not a “parking” light, controlled by the indicator stalk is it?

It’s worth checking all the other bulbs in the light cluster are working.
Sometimes one bulb out can cause other lights to behave strangely.

Everything else working normally, baffling.

Have you changed any bulbs lately?

No tow socket, however, 4 hour drive in rain and mud strewn roads may have take its toll somewhere along the line

Is it a Ducato or sibling base vehicle?

If so, there's an electrical connector located near the rear wheel (think it's called Y203 on a Ducato) that covers lighting, etc connections. Wonder if water has maybe got into it creating a "short" or "poor earth"?

This is what ours looks like.

Almost certainly a poor earth. Clean the multi pin connector and the bulb contact surfaces. Good luck!

I’d second this. We had similar issues for no apparent reason but found water in a loom multiplug within the engine bay that appears to have been the route course.

If it's a 2022, will it not still be under warranty? I would be wary about tackling it myself unless it was a simple blown bulb as the dealership may try to wriggle out of repairs saying it has been tampered with.

Similar problem in our last van, brake light flashing, indicator not flashing etc on one side. The culprit was corrosion on the bulb connectors to the base of the bulbs. If you zoom the photo you'll see where the corrosion has pitted the metal. Cleaned up with a bit of sandpaper and isopropol and cured it.

Out of warranty I’m afraid.

If you have LED lights at the rear there may be a (Sargent VLM) unit fitted , inside at the rear, for lighting control, it can be seen and its function is described at www.sargentltd.co.uk shop / fuse box & control units / and if fitted it could be worth checking the connections.
I’ll have look at this, thanks for the link

All led’s on the newer modules, however, doesn’t seem to have stopped the faults from recurring

Thanks very much for your diagnosis, turned out it was indeed a corroded Sargent VLM-5 unit. Thought you might like to know you were spot on, and thanks to all those that took the trouble to respond
