Chausson
Hi all, we are new to touring and have bought a Chausson motorhome, although it is right hand drive the habitat door is on the right, could this be an issue with some sites?

Only ever had German Motorhomes with the Hab door on the right never had a problem but to be fair we hardly ever use sites.

I had one site try it on a few years ago but they backed down when I challenged them. The C&MC specifically say you park facing whichever way you like as long as you are between the posts.

No problem
Just mention it on organised sites and park the other way round

Our Carado has never caused us a problem

Sounds like it's been a private rhd import from Europe.
In Europe the hab door would be on the verge side.
Why? Nearly all continental vans have the hab door on the RHS regardless of which side the steering wheel is.

We have been motorhoming for over 40 years alway with UK vans hab door on left. Bought our first German van in 2019, right hand drive but hab door on right not noticed any problems just be cautious when opening it on a busy road as large vehicles passing at speed can suck the door open.

Really???
Our old van was made in Italy, was a production model of RHD and had the hab door on the drivers side.
Just for info.
And we never had an issue with pitching.
If folks want to sit staring at our hab door and the innards of the van, then crack on!
I had better things to do on site once pitched.

We've had a CCC site tell us which direction we needed to face. Then I asked them whether they wanted my awning to encroach on the pitch nextdoor... I suggested they allowed me to go in the other way and they agreed. 🤷‍♂️

Ours is on the right. No problem in the Uk, more natural on the continent. Sometimes when rallying with friends on of us has to park the “wrong” way round to share social space, again we’ve never had a problem.

We were at CCC Chertsey the other week and we were asked to drive into the pitch as our door is on the RHS. The first time it has happened in 5 years of motorhome travel. It didn't bother us at all to comply. I must also add that the wardens were all very pleasant and the site had first class facilities.

Some sites will ask you to face inwards because UK caravans need to be reversed onto a pitch and the hab door will be on the left, CAMC if you're on a non awning pitch may ask you to drive forward onto your pitch but awning pitches they let you go in whichever way you wish in my experience. I always ask which way they want me to face, it makes life easier.

The CAMC rules read as follows:
“5. Pitch usage
b. On most pitches, outfits may be pitched nose or tail in. Site staff will advise guests where their outfit should go in relation to the pitch marker(s). If guests wish to pitch in any other way please ask site staff.”

There are no rules about which side your door should be and no mention of different rules for awning pitches and non awning pitches. Obviously an awning must not encroach on a neighbouring pitch which may mean you need to pitch a particular way round but it has nothing to do with the side the door is on. I don’t use an awning and can pitch with my door on either side.

We have a German built van with the Hsab door on the right.
Only once has it been an issue, on a C&MHC site in Chester.
I spoilt the uniformity, gave them the choice of going in nose first or awing out on wrong side.
They chose nose first as being the least worst option.

I suspect the warden would have prefered to simply cancel the membership and ban all members with right hand hab doors

Whilst that may be true in terms of the written club rules, I can only repeat what i've been told by CAMC wardens, you'll note that awning pitches are larger and have the two markers more or less in the centre whereas non awning pitches are narrower and have the two markers to one side, they don't want the habitation door opening onto the fire break, so vans with the door on the right may be asked to drive in forwards so the door opens onto the pitch, I dare say that the wardens at different sites interpret the rules differently though but i'm sure they'll tell you what they want when you check in.

Went to the York CAMC site years ago and had trouble explaining to the little hitler that our door was on the right, she couldn’t get her head around it!
