I’ve been out and about for two weeks now in my motorhome and I like being off grid as much as possible. I have two refillable bottles on board and like to keep them topped up so I use various LPG stations dotted about but I can’t for the life of me work out how the price varies so much?
I first filled them up at Birmingham Autogas in Cradley Heath…. £0.75 a litre. Nice. (y) I then filled up before I came back off Skye two days ago at Harbourside Garage, Broadford……£1.41! Really? I had a look at Lochbroom Garage Services in Ullapool today….. £1.41 again. How can the last two be nearly double the first one? Is it profiteering because of the lack of choice up here in Scotland?

Right first time

From both of those examples you would spend far more in fuel driving to a cheaper one than you could possibly save

I just pay what they ask and am grateful they are there , more closing than opening

A cylinder costs me about £20 to refill at 99p / litre, I think that’s OK and even £30 would be so much cheaper than Calor

Probably costs twice the price to get it delivered in the Highlands than in Birmingham. The nearest refinery might be a 4 or 5 hour drive away. I would just be glad that someone bothers to stock it at all. If you don’t like the price don’t buy it.

Yesterday I fitted gaslow bottle to our new to us bailey and paid £1.09 ltr at a filling station 3 miles away so i could check everything was OK, yes i could have paid 30p less at flogas but that,s 20 miles away and would have cost more in diesel than i would have saved. So swings and roundabouts.

In my experience most sellers and delivery firms show prices on their website but with a note that they exclude the Highlands and Islands.

I can absolutely see why a small retailer would have to charge a realistic price for LPG now , we don’t see many leisure customers for months in the winter , then our staff are constantly interrupted by phone calls ( we are actually just about to add an announcement to our phone system regarding LPG as the calls are now beyond a joke ) .
Leisure market LPG is small volume sales and extremely time consuming, increasing the price for smaller volume sales might be something we need to do .
On another note I was working over the weekend just gone , after a call I agreed to serve them with LPG only for the owner to jump out of his Motorhome with a lit cigarette 🚬 ⚠️
Asked nicely if he could move away from the pump / tank , answered that he was just going to open his locker ⚠️

€85-€1.10 is what I have paid so far in France and Spain.

They walk among us!

I think the majority of us are happy to pay any extra price to keep yours, and other services available.
Absolutely. (y) It was the huge differences in price I was wondering about. I’m happy to pay whatever it costs at the time but presumably the one man band in Cradley Heath is still making a profit on the £0.75? I work in the road transit industry and know all about transportation costs as it’s part of my job description.
